Position Summary

The clinical educator position provides companywide quality program oversight and direction, under the supervision of the Director, Quality and Patient Safety. This position works with administrative leadership to plan, organize, direct, and lead the education and competency of the organization. Scope of responsibility encompasses all settings of the organization. The clinical educator participates in the design, implementation, and evaluation of educational programs that improve the delivery of high quality, comprehensive, safe, individualized patient/family-centered care. The clinical educator implements clinical learning and competency and policy development. The clinical educator demonstrates a knowledge base that includes utilization of a variety of teaching strategies, assessment, and evaluation methods.

Primary Functions and Accountabilities

  • Develops and implements training of clinical team members in clinical skills and safe medication handling.
  • Plans and implements education programs for the staff.
  • Develops annual organization educational plan, goals and objectives in collaboration with Quality Directors.
  • Identifies training needs by analyzing company metrics, issues, and forecasts.
  • Develops new policies and procedures to improve training methods.
  • Collaborates with managers to identify practice gaps and develops training to address need.
  • Monitors competency of staff to determine if additional training is needed for individuals.
  • Maintains confidentiality as subject to HIPAA.
  • Ensures documentation of training programs and maintains records.
  • Develops educational workshops for continued competency.
  • Accountable for defined aspects of staff development, continuing competency, and professional development of clinical staff to improve quality, safety, and patient outcomes.
  • Supports system performance improvement and evidence-based practice projects and initiatives.
  • Manages development, implementation, and ongoing evaluation of operational clinical policies.
  • Work with human resources to ensure licensing and certifications are maintained for all clinical staff.
  • Supports the quality and safety teams, and subspeciality groups to facilitate and develop education needs.
  • Develop an organizational wide resource library including multimedia formats.
  • Builds strong relationships with physicians, leadership, and management in support of the company's mission, vision, and values.
  • Supports the accomplishment of department strategic plans that achieve high impact and significant improvements in organizational performance.
  • Systematically applies and teaches the science and theory of education and competency, and policy development.
  • Assures that educational activities are documented and reported within the organization and externally as appropriate.
  • Demonstrates problem solving, leadership, conflict management, and team building skills to ensure a productive work environment and achievement of goals. Participates in performance improvement projects.
  • Acts as a clinical resource for physicians and staff members using evidence-based knowledge and prevailing standards, and best practices.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.
  • Frequent travel is expected.Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
    • Must be able to work independently both strategically and operationally for program completion with minimum supervision.
    • Demonstrates the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age of the patients served.
    • Demonstrates knowledge of educational plans, evidenced based practice, and competency for growth and development needs and staff education needs that apply to all staff levels and abilities.
    • Comfortable working with all levels of the organization; ability to identify and work with variety of stakeholders to reach appropriate resolution and solutions.
      • Natural ability to inspire trust, motivate, and influence people across the organization to achieve quality management goals.
      • Demonstrated professionalism and ability to maintain confidentiality.
        • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office.
          • Experienced in organizational and planning, managing multiple demands, and achieving results.
          • Strong critical thinking skills with the ability to adapt to multiple workflows and streamline processes.
          • Analytical reasoning, interprets and evaluates complex information, while identifying patterns and essential issues.
          • Team development and facilitation techniques applied to education and competency improvement or project teams to achieve their highest potential.
          • Superb written and oral communication skills with particular emphasis on presentation skills and attention to detail.

            Position Requirements
            • Licensed Registered Nurse, or Licensed Paramedic
            • American Heart Association Certification in Health Care Provider Basic Life Support.
              • A Minimum of 2-3 years' experience in education, Leadership.
              • Experience in Project management and/or program development with demonstrated results.
              • Demonstrated knowledge of education competency development principles.

                Preferred:
                • Bachelors or Master's degree or equivalent experience in a related field.
                • Prior knowledge or work in orthopaedics strongly valued.
                • Certification in orthopaedics or education related specialty.Physical Demands
                  • Frequent Travel throughout Virginia is expected.
                  • Requires high-level visual and auditory acuity for participating in meetings, for regular use of computers and other office equipment.
                  • Ability to move throughout the offices, to sit for extended periods of time, to perform desk, office, and administrative activities.
                  • Working under stressful conditions.
                  • Working irregular hours including evenings.
                  • Physical health sufficient to meet the ergonomic standards and demands of the position.
