Job Summary: A Radiation Therapist is responsible for delivering radiation treatments to cancer patients as prescribed by a radiation oncologist. This role involves operating radiation therapy equipment, ensuring patient safety during treatments, and providing care and comfort to patients throughout their treatment process. Key Responsibilities: Patient Preparation: Pre-treatment assessments : Review patients--- medical history and ensure that the treatment plan aligns with the doctor---s specifications. Patient positioning : Position patients on the treatment table according to the prescribed radiation treatment plan, ensuring they are comfortable and in the correct alignment for each session. Marking the treatment area : Use skin markings or temporary tattoos to mark the treatment area for accurate radiation delivery. Administration of Radiation Therapy: Operate equipment : Set up and operate radiation therapy equipment (linear accelerators, simulators, etc.) to deliver prescribed doses of radiation. Monitor the patient : Continuously monitor patients during the radiation process, ensuring they remain still and properly positioned. Follow safety protocols : Ensure all radiation treatments are administered with the highest safety standards, minimizing exposure to healthy tissues while targeting the tumor. Adjust treatment settings : Make necessary adjustments to treatment plans based on the patient's position and other factors as instructed by the oncologist. Patient Care and Communication: Explain procedures : Clearly explain the radiation therapy process to patients, addressing any concerns or questions to reduce anxiety and ensure their cooperation. Provide emotional support : Offer support and reassurance to patients, as many are undergoing treatment for serious conditions such as cancer. Monitor for side effects : Observe patients for any immediate reactions or side effects during or after the treatment, such as skin irritation, and report any issues to the healthcare team.
