Job Summary: A Pediatric Emergency Room (ER) Registered Nurse (RN) provides specialized, high-acuity care to pediatric patients experiencing acute, life-threatening, or urgent medical conditions. Pediatric ER RNs are skilled in managing a wide range of pediatric emergencies, including injuries, infections, respiratory distress, trauma, and critical illnesses. They work collaboratively with emergency medicine teams to provide timely, evidence-based care to children and their families. Key Responsibilities: - Assess and manage the care of pediatric patients presenting with a wide range of emergency medical conditions, including trauma, infections, respiratory issues, and acute illnesses.
- Monitor and evaluate patients' conditions, including vital signs, lab results, and clinical status, to identify urgent medical needs and respond promptly.
- Administer medications, treatments, and interventions specific to pediatric patients, ensuring adherence to established protocols.
- Collaborate with physicians, pediatric specialists, and other healthcare professionals to develop and implement individualized care plans.
- Perform advanced pediatric assessments, including airway management, trauma stabilization, and recognition of life-threatening conditions.
- Educate patients, families, and caregivers about their conditions, treatment plans, and strategies for managing care at home.
- Provide emotional support and guidance to patients and families, helping to alleviate anxiety and ensure a positive healthcare experience.
- Document patient care accurately, ensuring compliance with clinical standards, safety protocols, and regulatory requirements.
- Monitor and respond to acute complications, including respiratory distress, shock, and other life-threatening conditions.
- Assist in the stabilization of critically ill pediatric patients, including the administration of IV therapies, airway management, and resuscitation.
- Participate in quality improvement initiatives, continuing education, and professional development to maintain pediatric emergency care expertise.
Qualifications: - Education: Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) preferred; Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN) accepted.
