Job Title: Quality Lab Coordinator Location:Russellville, AR Pay Rate:$29.00 Sign-on Bonus:$2,500 to be paid out as follows - $1,000 at 90 days
- $1,500 at the 6 mths post commissioning - Dec 12, 2025 pay date
PURPOSE OF THE JOB The Quality Lab Coordinator plays a crucial role in ensuring the highest standards of product quality and compliance within our Foamular XPS production plant. This position supports the Technical Leader on quality-related projects, contributing to continuous improvement initiatives and maintaining rigorous testing protocols to uphold our commitment to excellence. The Quality Coordinator will also be responsible for continuous improvement of lab processes and training lab personnel as required. Reports to: Technical Leader Span of Control: No Direct - Plant/Suppliers JOB RESPONSIBILITIES - Maintain a strong working knowledge of all lab testing equipment, including troubleshooting.
- Collaborate with the production staff to determine the optimal timing for fresh foam quality tests.
- Communicate test results clearly and effectively with the team.
- Discuss recipe changes and changeovers to ensure smooth transitions.
- Make informed decisions on segregating scrap vs. prime material, using critical thinking to test foam as frequently as necessary.
- Develop a scrap segregation process that is unique to the Russellville plant.
- Trained and certified (level 4) as a lower building operator on all equipment
- Perform foam quality testing using various laboratory equipment such as:
- Thickness measurement laser device
- Instron Compressive tester
- Lab scale
- Drop gauge for thicknesses
- FOX k-factor thermal tester
- Melt flow indexer
- Colorimeter
- Digital microscope & program for cell size measurement
- Peel test machine
- Work safely and effectively around the hot wire table saw.
- Monitor product quality by reviewing daily lab results to ensure accuracy and proper testing methods.
- Maintain documentation of test results and perform data entry as required.
- Identify and store aged test samples, conduct/coordinate aged testing, and retain samples as per schedule.
- Manage training of lab operators, including developing training programs, annual reviews, and updates of best practices.
- Ensure testing compliance and accuracy in lab operations.
- Review data entries and lab testing sheets, maintaining appropriate records of results.
- Monitor and manage laboratory supply inventory, such as labels, calibration blocks, etc.
- Maintain a basic working knowledge of applicable ASTM, UL, Radco, and FM procedures and requirements.
- Review and maintain resin melt flow results, including the resin database.
- Lead the maintenance of good housekeeping in the laboratory.
- Conduct additional testing and studies to further characterize product quality.
- Provide guidance on lower building setup/function as it pertains to product quality.
- Maintain and schedule up-to-date calibration records for all lab equipment.
- Act as the internal representative for all external quality audits.
- Conduct audits of external suppliers for adherence to company standards.
- Create and maintain tools for use during audits.
- Manage Quality On-Hold material.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
JOB REQUIREMENTS MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: - High School Diploma or GED Equivalent
- Strong lab equipment and testing knowledge.
- Can do and teach all lab testing functions.
- Ability to do basic mathematical calculations.
- Must have basic computer skills.
- Excellent time management / multi-tasking skills.
- Handwriting and report writing skills should be above average.
- Ability to work with little or no supervision.
- Good verbal and written communication (procedure writing)
- Understanding of lower building equipment and functionality.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES: - Strong working knowledge of the IQS systems, including abilities to trouble shoot or correct.
- Navigate Microsoft Outlook to send and receive plant communications.
KPI's (Key Performance Indicators): - Maintain a clean lab area and effectively own the space.
- Ensure reliable and repeatable data by having depth of understanding of all critical parameters that may influence lab data.
- Improve and develop SPC traceability of foam quality data
- Develop/improve scrap and on-hold foam traceability
- Effectively train new employees in lab testing procedures.
- Maintain SDS bookkeeping.
ESSENTIAL PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS/WORK ENVIRONMENT: - Ability to lift up to 30 lbs. without assistance.
- Work up to 12 hours in hot/cold manufacturing environment.
- Walk/stand on concrete floor continuously for up to 12 hours.
- Safeguard self with Personal protective Equipment (PPE) - steel-toed shoes, eye protection (glasses, goggles, and/or facemask) hearing protection and any additional PPE as necessary for task.
