Med Surg Overview: Mercy Fort Smith's Med Surg Service Line is made up of 8 specialty units that will provide experience with patient populations with a varying range of diagnoses and care needs. Functionally, these units house and care for patients who are preparing for or recovering from medical and surgical interventions. While you will have a "home unit", we cross-train our nurses between the various specialties to provide a strong foundational knowledge of all types of patient conditions, comorbidities, procedures, etc. Whether you are a new grad nurse looking to build a strong base before launching into your future career/educational plans or an experienced nurse who enjoys variety in their every day work, Med Surg is the place for you! Cardiac Medical Stepdown Unit Details: - Patient Population: close monitoring and nursing care for patients who are higher acuity cardiac and respiratory patients
- Chest Tubes
- Titration of Cardiac Drips
- Increased knowledge of BiPAP and Airvo
- Increased knowledge of Pacemakers
- Increased knowledge of Wearable Cardioverter Defibrillator
- Increased knowledge of Heart Caths
- Continuous ambulatory peritoneal dialysis
- NIH
- Ultrasound Guided IV
- Able to get PCCN certified after one year
- Nurse to Patient Ratio: 4:1 or 5:1
- # of Beds: 25
- UAP to patient ratio: 9:1
