Benefits Eligible: Full-Time Benefit Eligible Work Shift: Day (United States of America) Department: 8700 Health Information Management The Director of Health Information oversees and ensures medical records are complete, accurate, and coded appropriately. Protects the confidentiality of protected health information and ensures appropriate security measures are in place. Updates systems as needed to comply with state and federal regulations. Advocates for accurate and meaningful data and works as a critical link between care providers, payers, and patients. Is an expert in managing patient health information and medical records, administering computer information systems, collecting and analyzing patient data, and using classification systems and medical terminologies. Possesses comprehensive knowledge of medical, administrative, ethical, and legal requirements and standards related to healthcare delivery and the privacy of protected patient information. License / Certification - Required: Registered Health Information Administrator (RHIA) or Registered Health Information Technician (RHIT)
- Preferred: Registered Records Analyst (RRA) or equivalent
Education - Required: Bachelor's degree
Experience - Required: At least five years of management experience.
- Preferred: Experience in health administration, health information systems and/or healthcare finance.
Knowledge/Skills/Abilities - Possesses excellent communication skills, leadership ability in motivating and empowering staff, and the ability to work and communicate effectively with all levels of management.

Essential Responsibilities - Plans, organizes, directs, and evaluates the activities of the HIM Department, ensuring that all efforts provide value to and meet the needs of departmental customers.
- Evaluates staff members' performance in a fair, timely, and constructive manner. Approves employee time reports, ensuring payment for correct hours, shifts, and non-productive time. Schedules staff work hours and combo time.
- Maintains optimal departmental productivity and office automation to achieve peak departmental efficiency.
- Acts as liaison between HIM and Kaweah Health Administration, the Medical Staff Department, and other Kaweah Health departments. Effectively coordinates the efforts of the department with those of other departments and the medical staff.
- Responsible for the preparation and retention of all assigned reports, special studies, and statistics concerning Kaweah Health activities.
- Responsible for all updates and revisions to the HIM Policy and Procedure Manual.
- Responsible for the adherence to all State/Federal/TJC requirements and regulations regarding medical records.
- Completes special projects as assigned. Shows initiative and organizational understanding by developing new ideas or projects that promote goals and Kaweah Health objectives.
- Prepares for and conducts monthly departmental meetings to discuss medical records, filing, and transcription issues.
- Serves as HIM Department representative on the Medical Records Committee.
- Responsible for the continuing education of department staff.
- Represents the HIM Department on all computer-related committees.
- Provides leadership and direction for all coding and abstracting services.
