Information Technology (IT) Director What We're Looking For: We are seeking an Information Technology (IT) Director who will have the overall responsibility of managing the Information Systems of the agency. This position organizes, directs the planning, implementation and overall operation of information systems. The IT Director will lead all technology initiatives and ensure the effective, efficient and secure operation of organizational technology in long term strategy. RESPONSIBILITIES: - Participate as a member of the senior management team in governance processes of the organization's architecture, telecommunications, networks, programming, media and desktops, and other operational support systems.
- Lead strategic technological and operational support planning to achieve business goals by prioritizing initiatives and coordinating the evaluation, deployment, and management of current and future technologies and support systems.
- Assess and communicate risks associated with technology-related investments and purchases.
- Review hardware and software acquisition and maintenance contracts and pursue master agreements to capitalize on economies of scale.
- Define and communicate corporate procedures, policies and standards for the organization for acquiring, implementing and operating new network systems, equipment, software and other technologies and systems.
- Prioritize and control approved projects and the project portfolio as they relate to the selection, acquisition, development and installation of major information technology support systems.
- Track and control the technical and support services annual operating and capital budgets for IT operations.
- Ensure continuous delivery of technical and support services through oversight of service levels with end users and monitoring of systems, programs, and equipment performance.
- Develop policies and procedures to ensure departmental effectiveness and compliance with applicable laws and agency policies.
- Oversee development of long-range plans with regards to space planning, designs, technological and other capital layout requirements to ensure that resources are aligned to assist the agency in meeting its strategic business objectives.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
RESPONSIBILITIES - UNIT MANAGEMENT: - Communicate and educate employees on agency culture and lead by example, demonstrating a commitment to integrity, honesty, and adherence to the highest standards of ethical behavior.
- Provide direction, and leadership by conducting periodic staff meetings and frequent check-ins with department leadership.
- Provide opportunities for employees to develop their competencies. Provide career counseling and advice, while empowering employees to develop themselves.
- Provide feedback on performance, take prompt corrective action when necessary and conduct Performance Evaluation Process (P.E.P.'s) in a timely manner.
- Select and hire well-qualified, talented staff that reflects labor market diversity.
- Allocate and request resources that match production needs and adjust as necessary to support unit's budget and CSI goals/mission.
- Build strong teams that are technically competent and characterized by a high level of coordination and trust.
RESPONSIBILITIES - LEADERSHIP: - Remain on the forefront of emerging industry practices and stay abreast of the latest developments in MIS technology.
- Remain highly technically competent at all levels of data processing while striving for enhanced user productivity through implementation of new software technology where applicable, and the implementation of policies that more effectively utilize MIS resources.
- Maintain Agency's effectiveness and efficiency by defining, delivering, and supporting strategic plans for implementing information technologies.
- Challenge others to develop as leaders while serving as a role model and mentor.
EXPERIENCE, KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES YOU SHOULD POSSESS: - Bachelor's degree in computer sciences, MIS or related field required. Master's Degree preferred; extensive technical and supervisory experience may be substituted for degree. Project Management certification preferred.
- Minimum 5-7 years' experience managing and/or directing technological and support operations.
- 8-10 years experience working in the information technology industry with experience in strategic technology planning, execution and policy development.
- Must have 5 years verifiable experience as a manager of technical and non-technical teams. Requires extensive experience in all facets of project planning, implementation, and evaluation in a team-centered work environment.
- Extensive experience in Windows network administration.
- Requires excellent knowledge of technology and support environments, including telecommunications, networks, programming, media and desktops, solid understanding of computer systems characteristics, features and integration capabilities coupled with extensive knowledge of data processing, hardware platforms, enterprise software applications and outsourced systems, including decision support systems and technical experience with systems networking, databases, Web development and user support.
- Excellent understanding of project management principles and proven experience in planning, organization and development required.
