The Department The faculty in the Department of Communication and Media Studies teach students hands-on production skills; foundational knowledge to navigate and adapt to the ever-changing media landscape; and the history, theory, ethics, and criticism of media. Our students build connections with peers and professionals, positioning them for diverse career options in media industries and beyond. The department is dedicated to diversity among its faculty and students. Prospective applicants are encouraged to see the department's web page at: Duties of the Position Teaching COMS 368 Newspaper Writing & Editing (The Star), a 4-unit upper division course which teaches its students best practices in journalism and revolves around the students producing the campus newspaper The Star, in print and on-line. The position also involves time advising the newspaper's student staff. The anticipated work load is 4 units per semester. Professional Qualifications To be recommended for appointment, the candidate must have: A bachelor's degree and a professional background which includes experience in journalism, ideally in positions that involved leadership, mentoring, and/or editing. Teaching experience preferred. Rank and Salary Full-time is a 15-unit workload per semester. Actual salary is dependent upon the number of units assigned, educational preparation, and availability of funds subject to any CSU system faculty contract salary increases. - Salary commensurate with degree level and experience.
- Anticipated Hiring Salary Range: $4,530 - $6,056 per full-time month.
- The full-time (15 units per semester) monthly base salary range indicated above is prorated to the number of units worked and are paid in six monthly payments for each full semester.
- Selection as a candidate in the applicant pool, does not guarantee employment. Temporary Faculty appointments are made on a part-time, temporary basis and contingent upon department needs and funding.
- Temporary Faculty appointments are made on a semester-by-semester basis.
- Relocation expenses will not be provided for temporary faculty appointments.
