Each year, Mission Graduates reaches over 3,600 low-income children, youth, and families in San Francisco, emphasizing college as a means to achieve economic equity and strengthen the fabric of our community.Program Overview - The Extended Day Program (EDP) is an award-winning afterschool academic enrichment program serving over 1,000+ students at 8 schools: Alvarado ES, Bryant ES, Cleveland ES, Flynn ES, Everett Middle School, Marshall ES, Sanchez ES, and Thomas Edison Charter Academy.Position Summary
- Assists in the direct delivery of instruction in a classroom setting with pupils who have moderate to severe impairing conditions as determined by an individualized education program (IEP). The primary objective of such assistance is to affect learning for mastery by implementing both developmental and remedial methods in basic skill areas and content areas. The employee assists staff by implementing lesson plans, participating in parent conferences, keeping relevant records, operating instructional equipment, and performing related duties as required.Key Responsibilities & Primary Duties
- Must be able to work Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays, Fridays: 2:00-5:00 pm and Wednesdays 1:00-5:00 pm.
- Utilizes knowledge appropriate to satisfy the Distinguishing Characteristics of the class listed above, examples of which may include familiarity with teaching methods, instructional media, test scoring, school organization, and school rules and regulations.
- Demonstrates competency in performing the following tasks: working with pupils who have been designated non-severely impaired by an IEP, acting quickly and effectively in emergencies, and developing and maintaining effective, courteous communications with pupils, staff, and the public within the culturally diverse environment of the school community.Required Qualifications
- 4 years of proven experience and ability in working in education and/or youth programs.
- Demonstrated knowledge of and experience with the best practices in youth development program planning, curriculum development, methods of teaching, and evaluation.
- BA or BS required. TB test clearance is mandatory prior to hire.
- Experience working in communities of color with low-income populations.Benefits Package
