In this role, you will report directly to our Head of Finance and play a crucial part in ensuring smooth payroll operations and compliance at Semgrep. As Semgrep's Senior Payroll Specialist, you will be responsible for processing payroll, managing payroll taxes, and ensuring all employees are compensated accurately and on time. You will work closely with HR and Finance to ensure payroll processes align with business needs and legal requirements.The main areas you will focus on: payroll processing, payroll reporting, and compliance. This role will require you to manage payroll for the US-based and international team members, oversee payroll system integrations, and address any payroll discrepancies. You will thrive in this role if you have strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and the ability to manage sensitive data. You will also play a key role in implementing improvements to payroll processes and ensuring compliance with local, state, federal, and international regulations. - Our expectation is that this role will be based in the Bay Area with the ability to come into our San Francisco office 1-2 days a week.Prior experience in a fast-paced, tech environment is helpful, but we are more interested in your detail-oriented and problem-solving skills than your pedigree. - Own payroll operations and transactions processing in our payroll system (Rippling), preparing payroll account reconciliations and JEs, and ensuring month-end close are completed timely and in compliance with local and federal regulations.
- Create controls, processes, and communications, and ensure each pay cycle, including off-cycle, is processed accurately and timely.
- Process associated payroll taxes and payment of employee benefits, including payroll and benefits reconciliations and equity transactions (e.g., ISO, NSO).
- Produce and improve monthly payroll dashboard reporting, as well as ad hoc reports as needed.
- Manage Rippling ASO, Rippling Global PEO, and remote.com EoR, and ensure Rippling and remote.com meet local, federal, and international registration requirements for withholding and related compliances.
- Partner cross-functionally to optimize and automate our processes, including being a key player in current data feed between payroll system and ERP and future payroll system implementation.
- Produce and improve monthly payroll dashboard reporting and ad hoc reports as needed.
- Partner with People team for workers comp and employee 401(k).
- Ensure timely and accurate W-2 preparations at year end.
- Research and provide best practices opinions regarding payroll practices and payroll tax and benefits compliances.You are ideal for this role if you have
- 6+ years of payroll processing and compliance experience.
- Excellent problem-solving skills, strong business judgment, and the ability to communicate risks and suggestions.
- Ability to maintain strict confidentiality over sensitive information, including employee data.
- Experience processing multi-state payroll and managing ASO and EOR services.
- Experience with tax withholdings and processing related to equity transactions (e.g. ISO, NSO, RSU).
- Experience working with tax jurisdictions, workers comp reporting and invoicing.
- CPP and/or membership with the American Payroll Association is a huge plus!Compensation:
