Lead Avionics Mechanical EngineerDepartment: AvionicsEmployment Type: Full TimeLocation: Redondo BeachReporting To: Carl Haken, VP of AvionicsCompensation: $130,000 - $180,000 / yearDescriptionAs the Lead Avionics Mechanical Engineer, you will be responsible for managing and mentoring avionics mechanical engineers, owning avionics mechanical integration for new rockets and spacecraft, analyzing thermal and dynamics environments, developing new avionics components, all while working closely with an agile team that strives to make high-performance vehicles from a clean sheet.Responsibilities - Analyze loads and environments to develop thermally and structurally efficient designs
- Work closely with engineers in other departments to create globally effective solutions
- Perform hand calculations to determine appropriate member sizes
- Produce engineering drawings with required specifications for manufacturing
- Mentor other mechanical engineers on the team and uphold excellent standards
- Update designs and documentation as required
- Work with in-house manufacturing group and external suppliers to produce designsMinimum Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in mechanical or aerospace engineering
- 4+ years of demonstrated experience in mechanical design
- Proficiency with CAD software and the ability to learn new tools
- Experience in creating finite element models for component stresses, modal, and/or thermal analysis
- Experience with Design for Manufacturability (DFM) for aluminum components
- Ability to apply dimensioning and tolerancing (GD&T)
- Demonstrated experience working collaboratively across teams
- Ability to communicate technical challenges, explain rationale and/or resolve concernsPreferred Skills and Experience
