Duties and responsibilities are subject to change and other duties may be assigned as necessary.Summary:The Linux/HPC (High Performance Computing) administrator will assist the IT team in managing the Institute's highly collaborative scientific computing environment. They maintain and enhance the integrity, security, and performance of our Linux operating system. Installs, configures, and updates Linux systems and software, troubleshoot issues, and ensures the system is secure, reliable, and efficient.Duties and Responsibilities: - Assist in the management of the Institute's centralized computer cluster and associated storage.
- Configure systems in alignment with security best practices.
- Perform and validate system backup and monitoring.
- Apply required system and application patches; package management; third-party software installation and maintenance.
- Troubleshoot hardware and software issues and provide user support.
- Support for lab Linux workstations and servers.
- Perform other related tasks, duties and responsibilities as required, assigned or directed.Education and/or Experience:
- High School diploma required, but a Bachelor's degree in Information Technology, Network Engineering, Computer Engineering, or another scientific or technical field is preferred.
- Experience with life science informatics applications and environments.
- At least three years professional experience with Red Hat/CentOS or Ubuntu.
- Experience with the following areas and platforms is preferred:
- Cluster management experience (Slurm preferred).
- Amazon Web Services (S3, EC2).
- Network-attached storage (NAS) configuration and maintenance.
- Automation using shell / Python.
- Deployment and maintenance of web servers (Apache, nginx).
- Database maintenance (MySQL/MariaDB).Knowledge, Skills and/or Abilities:
