Department Summary The Aviation and Technology Department at San Jose State University offers Bachelor of Science in Aviation (BS Aviation). Additionally, the department also offers a Master of Science in Quality Assurance (MSQA) for those students interested in pursuing a graduate level degree. The Aviation Program offers four options: Professional Flight (Pilots), Aviation Management (Management), Flight Operations (Operations), and Maintenance Management (Maintenance). The department has an enrollment of 270 students. The Aviation Program's Flight Simulation Lab is equipped with over 10 simulators and enjoys access to the County's Reid-Hillview Airport with a 10,000 SF hangar, classrooms, laboratories, and offices. Students in both the Aviation and Technology Programs can participate in internships and earn credits (Avia 195 and Tech 195). Undergraduate students are strongly encouraged to engage in individual research projects, collaborating with department faculty to gain experience in conducting research, motivating them to pursue graduate studies (Avia 180 and Tech 180). The Department relies on its own students to take leads in supervising laboratory sessions and assist faculty in laboratory development and grading. - Faculty shall organize all their classes within the Canvas Learning Management System (LMS).
- All classes must be offered and meet as scheduled throughout the entire semester or term, in the mode assigned and listed in the schedule of classes (i.e., asynchronous, synchronous, bichronous, in-person, or hybrid).
- Lecturers are expected to work with the Department Chair and Course Coordinators to develop their courses materials, teach courses effectively, maintain appropriate office hours in accordance with University Policy, and to cooperate with the department in the peer-review process. Lecturers are strongly encouraged to seek guidance from Department Chair for clarification on University policies and department practices related to grading, testing, textbooks, office hours, curriculum goals, disability accommodations, academic integrity, and other relevant matters.
Required Qualifications - Applicants should demonstrate an awareness of and sensitivity to the educational goals of a multicultural population as might have been gained in cross-cultural study, training, teaching and other comparable experience.
- Depending on the program to teach courses in, PhD and MS degrees in the field or related areas are required. Under exceptional cases, a BS degree with several years of experience would suffice the requirement. Industry experience is highly desirable.
- Knowledge of the subject matter of the discipline to which the individual is assigned.
- Evidence of satisfactory achievement in previous academic work.
