Senior Mainframe Server Administrator Accepting CandidateLocation: San Jose, California Country: United States Job Type: ContractPeter Betten is recruiting this position.Typical Deliverables: - Primary responsibility for maintaining the VTAM & TCPIP subsystems in a z/OS 2.4 and JES2 software environment.
- Install and/or participate in software management and installation, including utilizing the IBM SMP/E product for installation and maintenance. This includes migration with testing and integration.
- Implement and verify backup and recovery procedures, including Business Recovery concerns and associated testing.
- Review new features and other changes related to system software, advising Technical/Development/Operations groups of relevant issues related to reporting, programming, and performance. Identify the need for software upgrades and patches as appropriate.
- Create, maintain, and upgrade software systems for development and production environments.
- Monitor system software access, performance, and resource utilization.
- Provide technical leadership to developers on the use of software management systems, development and integration tools, and deployment strategies, including application tuning and effective use of software features.
- Act as a liaison between application programmers and vendors to report and resolve software problems.
- Work with application programmers to ensure that application problems do not adversely affect production operations.
- Assist with the analysis, design, programming, and implementation of applications that interface with system software.
- Analyze requirements and recommend policies, procedures, and standards for software systems.
- Develop and modify technical documentation to support operations and training.
- Perform other duties as assigned, including special projects.
- Develop, maintain, and monitor proper software use and security authorization policies.
- Provide 24/7/365 software support, including on-call support during off-hours.
- Serve as the Mainframe Team Lead regarding contract review and execution.
- Serve as the Disaster Recovery focal point concerning all aspects of the IBM DR process.Required Skills & Abilities:
- 20+ years of experience with mainframe software management, specifically for VTAM & TCPIP subsystems and associated software products.
- Experience supporting, leading, and training software management use with minimal direction, including all aspects such as logical/physical design, defining, implementing, monitoring, reporting, and utilities.
- Actively mentor and guide staff in the development of mainframe implementation, testing, and maintenance of VTAM & TCPIP software and related system software skills.
- Monitor VTAM & TCPIP and its components to make recommendations for better resource utilization for optimal performance and cost-effectiveness.
- Ability to install and customize IBM and third-party software using SMP/E and IEBCOPY.
- Ability to perform multiple activities simultaneously with minimal supervision.
- Possible travel and variable hours may be required.
- Ability to write, read, and debug programs in a batch and online environment.
- Ability to write software exit programs and use software utilities as required.
- Solid knowledge of mainframe JCL and utilities.
- Expert knowledge of Disaster Recovery Best Practices.
- Expert knowledge of OSA Adapters, IP, VTAM & SSL/TLS Traces.
- Expert knowledge of FTPS, SFTP, AT/TLS, VVP, JQP, MFT, and EntireX.
- Expert knowledge of CL Super Session, TN3270, and Enterprise Extender.
- Experience using TSO, ISPF, SDSF, IPTRACE, and NTSTAT.
- Experience with IP Routing, IP subnet structures, VIPA, and hyper-sockets.
- Experience with DR DASD/VTS mirroring and associated networking requirements.
- Experience writing in Assembler, REXX, and CLISTs.
- Experience and understanding of the z/OS UNIX environment.
