Colorado Animal Specialty and Emergency (CASE) is a rapidly growing, 24/7, 32,000 sq. ft. hospital located in Boulder, Colorado. We are seeking a dedicated an experienced Surgical Oncology Technician to join our team!As a Surgical Oncology Technician, you will be an integral part of our Oncology team, ensuring exceptional patient care and providing support across all CASE departments. You will play a crucial role in facilitating the surgical and medical oncology processes, contributing to the overall success of our hospital. Compensation: - $25-$32/hr based on experienceKey ResponsibilitiesPatient Care & Coordination:
- Create accurate patient estimates and treatment plans for surgical oncology cases.
- Obtain comprehensive patient medical histories.
- Oversee the admission and discharge of patients within the service.
- Provide exceptional client communication and education.
- Schedule appointments, surgeries, and advanced imaging for all departments.
- Safely restrain patients during procedures.
- Perform general venipuncture, peripheral catheter placement, and maintenance.
- Demonstrate expertise in bandaging, wound management, and oncology-related disease processes.Surgical Preparation and Oncology Procedure Management:
- Maintain aseptic surgical area preparation and ensure sterilization of supplies.
- Assist doctors in maintaining OR sterility and during procedures.
- Identify and handle surgical instruments appropriately.
- Obtain diagnostics, including bloodwork, radiographs, and other imaging related to consultations.
- Handle and submit samples obtained during consultations or surgical procedures accurately.Anesthesia-Related Skills & Responsibilities:
- Conduct pre-anesthesia examinations to assess safety and risk.
- Implement prescribed anesthetic plans from pre-surgery through recovery, ensuring effective patient monitoring.
- Assess patient pain and develop multimodal analgesic plans.
- Set up and troubleshoot anesthesia equipment, ensuring functionality.
- Utilize CASE anesthesia monitoring forms and protocols effectively.
- Monitor and manage anesthesia-related complications, such as hypotension, using pulse oximetry and capnography.Qualifications:
- Registered Veterinary Technician (RVT) with at least 3 years of applicable experience.
- Strong knowledge of basic veterinary practices, procedures, and terminology.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to work both independently and collaboratively with minimal supervision.
- Exceptional multi-tasking skills, maintaining high-quality standards in patient care and decision-making.
