About the Role: Company OverviewSince 1912, Sturgeon Electric Company, Inc., a subsidiary of MYR Group, Inc, has provided comprehensive electrical construction services to clients throughout the western U.S. Sturgeon Electric has two divisions, offering both power line construction and commercial/industrial electrical construction, making it a full-service electrical provider. -The Chief Estimator is responsible for planning, coordinating, and directing the Estimating and Preconstruction team for various electrical construction projects. This includes administering operating budgets, staffing, work assignments, salary, and performance reviews. The Chief Estimator will also support and administer all department standards and procedures as well as be responsible for the final review and approvals of estimate packages. The Chief Estimator will coordinate with the Procurement Manager and Division Manager for the selection of projects to pursue. -Essential Functions: - Take on leadership functions within the Estimating and Preconstruction department
- Create and maintain relationships with our clients. Bring in new opportunities.
- Work with the operations and procurement group to define the best prime cost on all bid opportunities
- Prepare flight board and ensure timely completion of estimates
- Update and maintain bid log
- Maintain and upgrade the company Accubid estimating system, database (units and prices), and assemblies
- Develop and maintain cost data, including labor and equipment rates, installation methods and production rates
- Develop, maintain, implement, and enforce PPG Connect estimating procedures and guidelines
- Prepare reports as needed including but not limited to monthly bid stats, pending work, and awarded work figures to district leadership
- Set departmental budget
- Ability to put together conceptual budgets with limited information
- Lead the project team through internal, corporate, and external reviews
- Review proposal specifications, drawings, and attend pre-bid meetings to determine scope of work and required contents of estimate
- Determine constructability requirements
- Review estimates and revisions for completeness and accuracy
- Lead, direct, and audit the work of assigned staff
- Act as a mentor
- Advise staff of company policy expectations coordinate employee performance reviews
- Identify parts of project that may be key to making a competitive estimate
- Identify and mitigate areas of risk for each project type
- Determine constructability requirements via field walk-downs with customer, subcontractor, and construction personnel
- Evaluate possible areas for potential prime cost reduction and produce backup
- Work to continuously improve through lean principles and A3 problem solving thinking
- Bring innovation to the team through collaboration and continuous education.
- Develop labor productivity and (installation unit costs where applicable) based on projected site conditions and historical data
- Ensure all working documents and data are maintained to back-up estimate figures
- May develop training requirements for the estimating and preconstruction staff
- Attend or direct a team member to attend preconstruction big room meetings
- Develop trend log as required on projects
- Provide cost options to clients on schematic level
- Meet the requirements the client has requested in terms of pricing, backup, and documentation

- Regular and predictable attendance About You: Qualifications
- Previous experience as a Lead or Senior level Estimator
- 10+ years of experience within the construction industry
- Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Construction Management or related field; combination of relevant education and experience considered in lieu of degree
- Experience in Mission Critical, Healthcare, Water/Waste Water, Commercial, and Industrial projects preferredKnowledge/Skills/Abilities
- Working knowledge of the N.E.C. and local codes
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications and estimating software
- Team player with excellent analytical, organizational and communication skills
- Ability to read and understand civil, architectural, structural, mechanical, etc. plans and specifications to include blueprints, proposals and other documents What We Offer: Compensation & Benefits
- Salary $155,000-$170,000/year
