We are currently hiring a Mechanical lead Level II for the Advanced Technology High Power Microwave (HPM) portfolio and IRAD teams. -Current AT HPM portfolio includes DEFEND, REDCAT, Chimera, Humbolt as well as additional CRAD pursuits. - This role involves cross functional collaboration and basic understanding of HPM pulser, source and antenna technologies planned for integration into both ground based and ship based platforms. - The HPM Mechanical Lead is responsible for the mechanical design and execution of the pulser, source and antenna hardware within the portfolio. - This lead also serves as the REA to our major antenna supplier, Vector. Scope execution spans Tucson, the Raytheon Northeast facilities, supplier facilities in Ohio as well as integration efforts at various test sites. -Tasks include supporting development or production, leading proposal activities, and technical management of mechanical engineering disciplines throughout the product life cycle. -Must be capable of collaborating and coordinating with Operations, Supply Chain, Quality, and other Engineering disciplines to resolve issues. - This will be onsite at our Tucson, AZ location. What You Will Do: - Lead day-to-day MED tasks in order to execute on the Advanced Technology HPM CRAD and IRAD programs delivering strategic systems and components
- Serves as the MED proposal lead for Customer Research and Development (CRAD) to enable advanced capabilities and new business technologies into adjacent markets -
- Coordinates closely with the Program Manager(s) and CE regarding MED budget and schedule -
- Coordinate, write, and deliver technical briefs to both internal and external customers
- Provides support to government meetings (working groups), data generation and reviews
- Perform mechanical design, development, and documentation of components, sub-assemblies, and major end items for defense system equipment in accordance with system requirements.
- Lead MED design effort, team size variable, as large as 10 members. (Collaborating across multiple disciplines with Structural and Thermal analyst, Materials Engineering, Quality, Safety, Supply Chain).
- Provide scheduling, staffing, and budget oversights to aforementioned lead efforts
- Lead a team(s) with limited supervision and meet commitments for assigned schedule, financial, and technical goals.
- Develop mechanical designs from initial concept to formal technical data package generation (engineering drawings, models) and culminating in initial demonstration builds and prototype testing
- Work thru engineering problems associated with large structures, welded assemblies, component integration, mechanisms, power and cooling systems, electronic assemblies
- Support suppliers with product integration
- Perform and review tolerance analyses to ensure form, fit, and function are as intended by design for the use-application.
- Improve new and existing designs using Design for Manufacture and Assembly (DFMA) and Design for Producibility principles.
- Work with suppliers for component part selections and developments to procure solutions that fit within design constraints and requirements
- Participate and lead design peer reviews, resolve action items, and conduct trade studies to make sound technical decisions.
- Apply knowledge and experience in technical problem solving and hardware development in a fast paced, team environment. Qualifications You Must Have:
- Bachelor's Degree in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) or related field
- Minimum 2 years of prior mechanical engineering experience
- Experience in HPM (High Power Microwave) technologies
- Active and transferable U.S. government issued security clearance is required prior to start date. U.S. citizenship is required, as only U.S. citizens are eligible for a security clearance. Qualifications We Prefer:
