JOB OVERVIEWJob Description Summary: The George Washington University Development and Alumni Relations (DAR) Division is seeking an Associate Director, Philanthropic Proposal Development. This position is foundational to a scalable, campaign-ready organization structure for the proposal development team to meet the growing demand for highly complex, cross-university seven- and eight-figure proposals and cases for support.DAR is responsible for leading the university's fundraising and engagement efforts and seeks to promote a culture of philanthropy throughout the university community, including alumni, students, parents, faculty, staff, corporations and foundations, patients, and other friends. Our goal is to advance GW's mission of excellence in education, research, scholarship, and patient care through maximum philanthropic attainment aligned with university priorities.The Associate Director, Philanthropic Proposal Development orchestrates the prioritizing, scheduling, and generating customized philanthropic proposal deliverables from ideation, research, writing original content, selection of visual communication elements, and direction of graphic design and print production. The proposals, with a primary focus on $1M+ donor opportunities, require a project management approach and the ability and self-confidence to independently and proactively coordinate collaboration with multiple stakeholders at all levels, including university leadership.Secondary priorities include the creation of other fundraising collateral to support front line fundraisers, articulate consistent messaging, and foster a culture of philanthropy. Areas include signature concepts and initiatives from scholarships, professorships, and marquee institutes to campaign collateral materials and training on usage of materials. Formats may range from cases for support, messaging frameworks, one-pagers, stories of impact, self-service templates, slides and talking points, gift announcements, and more. The Associate Director is responsible for producing, maintaining, and presenting team training materials to the division, and directly tasked with operational improvements that require proactive monitoring, auditing, and analysis to enhance team effectiveness. Develops and maintains a repository of approved templates/fundraising frameworks and past proposals that can be easily accessed and adapted for donor conversations or other uses such as stewardship, web content, etc.The Associate Director may directly supervise student workers and/or other Philanthropic Proposal Development team members' day-to-day work, including any hiring, onboarding, and coaching for maximum productivity and professional growth.Assists the Director, Philanthropic Proposal Development with leadership of the proposal development team, including content and strategic opportunities and key projects to support DAR, university leadership, and the campaign. Performs other related duties as assigned. The omission of specific duties does not preclude the supervisor from assigning duties that are logically related to the position.Minimum Qualifications: Qualified candidates will hold a Bachelor's degree in an appropriate area of specialization plus 2 years of relevant professional experience, or a Master's degree or higher in a relevant area of study.
