Locksmith - NAS Whiting Field, Milton, FL

EML is seeking an experienced Locksmith to install, repair, and maintain manual and automated locks, locking systems, and security devices for facilities and structures at Naval Air Station Whiting Field in Milton, FL.

STATUS: Full-Time, Non-Exempt

SUMMARY:

The Locksmith installs, repairs, modifies, and opens a variety of mechanical and electrical locking mechanisms found on doors, desks, compartments, mobile equipment, safes, and vaults. This worker examines locking mechanism and installs new unit or disassembles unit and replaces worn tumblers, springs, and other parts or repairs them by filing, drilling, chiseling, and grinding, opens door locks by moving lock pick in cylinder or opens safe locks by listening to lock sounds or drilling. This worker makes new or duplicate keys, using key cutting machine, changes combination by inserting new or repaired tumblers into lock, and establishes keying systems for building.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Ensure all locking mechanisms at the site are maintained and fully functional as scheduled
  • Examine locking mechanisms and install new unit or disassembles unit and replaces worn tumblers, pins, springs, and other parts or repairs them by filling, drilling, chiseling and grinding
  • Open door locks by moving lock pick in cylinder or open safe locks by listening to lock sounds or drilling
  • Make new or duplicate keys using key cutting machine
  • Re-Key locks and perform any lock upgrades as directed
  • Changes combinations by inserting new or repaired tumblers into lock
  • Establishes keying systems for buildings
  • Installs door and cabinet hardware
  • Maintain lock stock inventory
  • Ensure compliance with all code requirements, including those regulations pertaining to fire exits and door hardware
  • Be capable of working from plans and specifications
  • Observe all safety precautions during the maintenance and installation of electronic and mechanical equipment
  • Perform other duties as assigned, including irregular shifts when needed
  • Must know BEST Lock System

    EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

    Candidates should have no less than a High School education or equivalent (GED) and at least 5 years of prior professional Locksmith experience working on equipment and devices similar in size and scope to what is found on this federal contract. Must have valid driver's license with safe driving record, and be able to obtain airfield license. Maintain a thorough knowledge of the standard practices and procedures for the the methods, materials, and tools used in the locksmith trade, including complex access and control systems. Stay up-to-date on all types of locks, fastening devices and related hardware, and of their proper applications

    LANGUAGE SKILLS
    Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals in American English. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence in American English. Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of organization in American English.

    MATHEMATICAL SKILLS
    Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs.

    REASONING ABILITY
    Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.
