Job Summary

The Hydrologist will play a critical role in water availability projects, utilizing their expertise to assess and model surface and groundwater systems of Southeast Georgia. This role requires a strong background in hydrogeology and modeling.

Employment is contingent upon funding.

Responsibilities

  • Measure water quantity and characterize flow, volume, transport properties, and saltwater intrusion
  • Develop and implement surface and groundwater models to simulate, analyze, and predict aquifer or stream behavior
  • Predict water supplies and forecast floods and droughts
  • Contribute to the preparation of research proposals and technical reports
  • Analyze and interpret the results and prepare and present project findings to sponsors, regulatory agencies, and the public
  • Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams in water resource management projects

    Required Qualifications

    Educational Requirements
    • Two years of progressively higher-level graduate education (36 semester hours, 54 quarter hours or the equivalent) leading to a master's degree in hydrology or other directly related fields of study or master's or equivalent graduate degree in hydrology or other directly related field of study if it provided the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to do the work of this position OR one year of appropriate professional experience in hydrology that is equivalent to at least the GS-09 level in the Federal service.
    • Examples of such experience include independent responsibility for a well-defined study or for a phase of a larger study that required the planning and carrying out of routine hydrologic work.
    • This work would have required the individual to select and make minor adaptations to procedures and accepted practices and handle unexpected conditions arising in the normal course of the work.
    • A sound working knowledge of the principles of hydrology and the ability to independently perform moderately difficult and responsible scientific work is required. OR a combination of successfully completed progressive graduate level education, as described above, that is beyond the first year of graduate study and professional experience, as described above.

      Preferred Educational Qualifications
      • Doctoral degree in Hydrology or a relevant field
        Preferred Experience
        • Two (2) or more years of experience in groundwater modeling Familiarity with local and state regulations related to groundwater management
        • Experience in predictive modeling, specifically using artificial intelligence Working knowledge of contaminant fate and transport modeling is a plus

          Proposed Salary

          $78,706 - $85,000

          This is an exempt position paid on a monthly basis.

                • Excellent data analysis and interpretation skills
                • Excellent writing skills specifically for scientific reports
                • Excellence in using computational tools, proficiency in using industry-standard software (e.g., MODFLOW, FEFLOW, and other)
