Job SummaryWe are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Physician to join our team at Correctional Medicine Associates. As a Primary Care Physician, you will be responsible for providing high-quality medical care to inmates in a correctional facility.Key Responsibilities - Medical Direction: Provide professional medical direction, oversight, and direct patient care in a correctional facility.
- Leadership: Collaborate with the Health Services Supervisor to provide leadership for the medical program.
- Operations: Monitor and review operations and standards of care delivered to inmates.
- Admissions: Interview inmates and make decisions on admissions.
- Clinical Rounds: Make clinical rounds to ensure the delivery of high-quality medical care.
- Treatment Team Meetings: Participate in treatment team meetings to devise, review, and alter individual health plans.
- Unit Treatment Operations: Direct unit treatment operations to ensure the delivery of high-quality medical care.
- Surgery: Perform minor surgery and occasional major surgery, if necessary.
- Clinics: Hold clinics for nursing specialists to make diagnoses, determine treatment, and give prescriptions and protocols.
- Relationships: Maintain a good working relationship with facility staff, nursing staff, contract providers, and outside provider agencies.
- Policies and Procedures: Utilize established corporate, facility, and correctional policies and procedures in making decisions.
- Policy Formulation: Assist in the formulation of facility policy for the medical program.
- Staff Motivation: Motivate and encourage staff to perform their duties consistent with policy and procedures.
- Medical Services: Regularly evaluate the provision of all medical services to prevent the inappropriate use or duplication of those services.
- Inpatient Hospitalizations: Monitor inmate inpatient hospitalizations and facilitate early release whenever clinically appropriate.
- Catastrophic Illnesses: Closely monitor all potential catastrophic illnesses.
- Records and Reports: Prepare and maintain a variety of standard narrative, statistical, summary, and/or operational records, reports, and logs.
- Confidentiality: Maintain absolute security and confidentiality of all medical records.
- Audit: Audit medical files for documentation of all provided services.
- Operational Efficiency: Evaluate and recommend methods of improving operational efficiency and cost effectiveness of health-related services.
- Accreditation: Facilitate, where applicable, NCCHC/ACA/JCAHO accreditation of the medical program.
- On-Call Status: Accept on-call status.
- Professional Development: Attend seminars, workshops, conferences, etc., as required.
- Health Counseling: Provide health counseling and health education on an individual or group basis.
- Communication: Communicate effectively and coherently to administration, staff, inmates, visitors, and the general public.
- Travel: Domestic U.S. travel may be required.Qualifications
