Job Title: Registered Nurse Job Specialty: Acute Care - Medical Surgical (Med Surg) Job Duration: 13 weeks Shift: 12-Hour Nights Guaranteed Hours: 36 hours per week Experience: Minimum of 2 years in an Acute Care Med Surg setting License: Active RN License required Certifications: BLS, NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS) Must-Have: Basic Med Surg skills, some cardiac skills preferred Job Description: - Enforce a strict 75-mile radius rule for residency. - Work within a 14-bed unit with nurse-to-patient ratios of 1:5. - Collaborate with RNs and LPNs in staffing the unit. - Care for a variety of patients including: - Admission hold patients from the emergency department with confirmed orders - Patients in medical observation status due to overflow - Discharge pending patients who require additional arrangements before leaving - Ensure no patients require IV drips like Cardizem, amiodarone, milrinone, dobutamine, insulin, or vapothem. - Avoid handling patients who are inmates, have active infections requiring isolation, or are from PACU or MedOps. - Administer medications via IV and PO as ordered for admission hold patients. - Provide essential care and medication administration to discharge pending patients, including: - Managing medications and pain control with PO orders only - Monitoring and treating blood sugar levels - Offering nourishment according to dietary requirements - Assisting with complex toileting needs - Administering oxygen via nasal cannula - Managing other treatments as required post-discharge order - Do not require RNs to titrate drips. - Charge Nurse may have to take patient assignments. - Work alongside nurse aids/patient care techs as needed. - Perform troubleshooting for nasal cannula equipment without additional requirements. - Work shifts from Monday to Friday, 7 PM end time, with no weekend obligations. - Attend up to three shifts of unit/department-specific orientation. - Wear Caribbean Blue scrubs or white as per dress code. - Utilize MEDITECH 6.1 charting system. - Potential to float to other Med Surg units if census is low.
