Accountable for adhering to all quality and safety guidelines.Safely and efficiently executes daily tasks related to extrusion manufacturing of synthetic absorbable and non-absorbable multifilament products. Typical tasks include start-up, operation, and shut-down of extrusion and orientation processes, thread-up and doffing of production spools, testing of products, and troubleshooting of processes.Responsible for performing manufacturing procedures and executing diverse tasks in various processing areas such as biology, microbiology, biotechnology, medical technology or biochemistry. Follows regulatory requirements as well as policies and procedures of the business.\rDuties & ResponsibilitiesUnder limited supervision and in accordance with all applicable federal, state and local laws/regulations and Corporate Johnson & Johnson, procedures and guidelines, this position: - \r
- Operates production equipment to produce subassemblies or finished products.
- Interprets instructions and specifications and uses to set up equipment.
- Checks products on assembly line to confirm that they are properly assembled and removes defective products.
- Cleans and maintains equipment as needed.
- Notifies supervisor of maintenance and/or repairs needed on equipment.
- Prepares accurate records/documentation related to quality and work in progress. Troubleshoots minor production problems.
- Sets up production equipment to produce subassemblies or finished products.
- Ensures production equipment is properly set up.
- Checks products on assembly line to confirm that they are properly assembled and remove defective products.
- Compiles records and reports on quality inspection results.
- Cleans, maintains and performs basic repairs on equipment as needed.
- Schedules maintenance and/or repairs on equipment as directed.
- Prepares accurate records/documentation related to quality, work in progress, test results, and special projects.
- Troubleshoots production problems.
- Reports and documents unresolved production problems
- Executes and monitors manufacturing processes according to operational procedures.
- Establishes priorities based on production schedule.
- Participates in cleaning equipment and clean rooms as necessary.
- Takes readings of equipment and systems.
- Verifies and interprets parameters to ensure compliance.
- Takes samples and performs tests during process according to standard procedures. Participates in projects focused on process development and/or improvement, cost controls and new product manufacturing.
- Performs equipment maintenance, conditioning, standardization and calibration as needed. Troubleshoots equipment issues.
- Handles, stores and disposes of hazardous and nonhazardous materials incompliance with company policy and regulatory requirements.
- Handles chemicals appropriately using required safety equipment.
- Participates in the execution of validation/revalidation protocols.\r\rEssential Functions

- Tests fiber denier and performs tray testing as required and when necessary, troubleshoots process equipment and takes appropriate corrective actions.
- Tests fiber tenacity and elongation, and tracks results using SPC charting.
- Runs orientation and testing equipment (godets, orientation lines, kamitsus, Statimats, Denier counter, etc.) to produce denier VICRYL*, denier VICRYL* Mesh, PANACRYL*, and Ethilon fiber.
- Monitors equipment through measured checks of speeds and temperatures.
- Loads fiber in Tenney ovens at required intervals.
- Maintains accurate and legible documentation.
- Maintains housekeeping standards.
- Basic knowledge of CAMSTAR data system and inputs data as required.
- Monitors and responds to quality issues based on SPC trending of fiber properties, fiber denier testing, and observations of physical appearance.
- Coordinates the efforts of others in their proper job function to minimize waste and maximize production yields.
- Support daily wipe down and fiber buildup of equipment at testing including denier wheels, orientation stands and orientation supporting equipment (orientation points, kamitsus, and dancing arm).
