The Deputy General Counsel (Deputy GC) is the Legal team's 2nd in command, reporting directly to the General Counsel (GC). The Deputy GC supports the GC in overseeing Legal's day-to-day operations and has exposure to a broad range of legal topics relevant to the business. They not only provide legal advice but also serve as a trusted strategic partner for the business. With a strong grasp of the company's priorities and objectives, the Deputy GC helps accelerate the company's growth in a responsible, sustainable manner. The Deputy GC is a legal jack of all trades and is comfortable grappling with novel legal questions that often lack clear cut answers. Critical to success in this role is being able to manage multiple priorities, translating legal analysis into actionable advice, and focusing on how the Legal team can best serve the company's interests.Hybrid Role: Applicants must be based in Chicago, IL or Atlanta, GA to be considered for this role.In this role you will get to: - Lead the review, drafting, and negotiation of agreements covering a broad range of Riverside's operations, such as software licenses, data privacy agreements, and professional services agreements.
- Own and revitalize the company's contract management process.
- Identify areas of opportunity to leverage artificial intelligence and other transformative technologies to improve the Legal department's operations.
- Provide strategic advice on data privacy and cybersecurity issues relevant in the K-12 and clinical spaces.
- Guide colleagues with sound legal advice on employment and benefits topics.
- Help the company protect and maximize the value of its intellectual property assets by managing an organization-wide IP governance program. Minimum Requirements:
- JD (law degree)
- Minimum 5 years' experience practicing law in a law firm, in-house, or government setting.
- Located in Chicago, IL or Atlanta, GA.
- Admission to practice law in Illinois or Georgia.
- Customer service oriented and strong relationship management skills.
- Solid grasp of key provisions and negotiating points relevant to commercial contracts.
- Proficient in leveraging emerging technologies (e.g., AI) in the legal context.
- Exceptional drafting, organizational, and time management skills.
- Proficiency in summarizing key contract terms and representing such information in digestible formats.
- Familiarity with intellectual property laws, especially trademarks and copyrights, including international IP laws and regulations.
- Ability to effectively collaborate and direct external counsel on complex legal matters. Physical Requirements for this position:
