Job Title: Chief Operating Officer and Vice President of Operations Department: Corporate Reports to: Chief Executive Officer and President FLSA Status: Full-time Exempt Compensation: Negotiable/DOQ POSITION SUMMARY The Chief Operating Officer (COO)/Vice President of Operations (VP) is a member of the company executive team and always demonstrates ethical and professional behavior while promoting the company vision, mission, and core values and principles. The COO will plan, oversee, and implement operations strategy. Develop and implement budgets for multiple business units, departments, and projects. Interview, hire, and train operations employees. Analyze and improve business operations. Ensure compliance with local, state, federal, and Tribal laws. Communicate project progress, collaborate with executive leadership and management, and maintain the organization's profitability, efficiency, and growth. DUTIES and RESPONSIBILITIES OF THE COO/VP: Leading Departments and Operations: - Oversee day-to-day business unit operations, information technology, physical resource and security, and human resource department.
- Managing staff, ensuring efficient operations, and aligning them with the company's strategic goals and mission.
- Manage and oversee important projects, direct initiatives, and implement company-wide plans.
- Define and implement operations strategy, structure, and processes.
- Monitor performance to proactively identify efficiency issues and propose solutions.
- Maintain working knowledge of all phases of operations.
- Coordinate support to operations throughout the business units.
Budgeting and Cost Control: - Responsible for budgeting across multiple projects, monitoring costs, and ensuring financial efficiency.
- Serve key role in financial planning and cost management.
- Manage the business quarterly and annual budgeting process and P&L responsibilities.
- Work closely with Accounting and Finance to implement and refine company policies and procedures.
- Looks for methods to improve quality, efficiency, and productivity, reduce costs, increase profits, or improve control measures.
- Explore government and private grant funding sources for projects and other financing options.
- Use capital budget methodologies to evaluate potential major projects and investments.
Policy Implementation and Refinement: - Work closely with Human Resources to implement and refine company policies and procedures.
- Ensure that operational processes comply with local, state, federal and Tribal laws.
Strategic Planning, Annual Planning, Business Planning, and Execution: - Develop and implement a strategic plan to enhance the company's competitive position.
- Carry out long-term company plans developed by the CEO/President.
- Develop and implement a consolidated Annual Operating Plan and Operating Budget for the company each year.
- Developing and implementing strategies, procedures and business plans needed to enhance company growth.
Leadership and Talent Development: - Identify, train, and develop leaders within the company, setting them on a path for management roles.
- Interview, hire, train, motivate, lead, and mentor a high-performance management team.
- Provide regular performance updates to the senior leadership team.
- Cultivating and providing opportunities for rising talent within the organization.
- Performing employee reviews and developing corrective action plans if needed.
- Cultivates a healthy company culture of planning, professionalism, positivity, productivity, resourcefulness, and proactivity.
- Promotes the company vision, mission, and core values/principles.
- Explore ways to improve employee productivity, working with human resources and operation managers.
Executive Team: - Preparing and presenting reports to the Chief Executive Officer.
- Working closely with the CEO and CFO on all matters related to the business.
- Working with the executive team to set company performance goals.
- Works collaboratively to develop improved systems, processes, controls, and procedures that improve the overall efficiency of the firm and ensure excellent customer service.
- Performs all other duties as assigned by the CEO.
External Representation and Industry Awareness: - Represent the company at external and internal events.
- Stay informed about industry trends and attend relevant events to stay ahead.
REQUIRED EDUCATION and EXPERIENCE: - Must have a bachelor's degree in business administration, management, operations management, accounting, Tribal Nation Building, or another relevant field.
- Must have at least four years of business management experience.
- Profit and Loss (P&L) responsibility experience.
PREFERRED EDUCATION and EXPERIENCE: - Master of Business Administration (MBA) degree, Master of Accounting, Operations, or another relevant graduate field.
- Must have at least six years of business management experience.
SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE, and ABILITIES: - Knowledge of Tribal Nation Building and successful Tribal economic development principles and practices.
- Solid understanding of staff management, industry specifics and business strategies.
- Skilled at reading and interpreting key financial statements and business metrics.
- Ability to work with diverse populations.

- Superior management and interpersonal skills.
