The Indianapolis Zoo is seeking an experienced and passionate individual to lead our Finance Team. The Sr. Vice President and Chief Financial Officer is responsible for providing strategic and operational oversight of the finance, accounting, investment, and centralized purchasing functions.The Sr. VP & CFO works in concert with Board leadership, the President & CEO, Zoo colleagues, and the Finance staff to create and execute the Zoo's mission, vision, and strategic plan. There is a specific emphasis on maintaining the success and integrity of the institution's financial assets, financial planning, investment planning, financial policies & procedures, and accounting practices. The Sr. VP & CFO ensures the fiscal health of the organization by providing leadership and direction to the finance & accounting staff in all appropriate areas. Serves as a member of the Zoo's Executive Management Team and the Executive Cabinet.To be effective in this role, at least ten (10) years of progressive experience in the Finance field with at least a minimum of three (3) years of experience supervising accounting personnel required. Prior work in a non-profit setting is highly desirable. Must be very organized and responsive to multiple demands, while creating a positive customer experience for both internal and external customers. Bachelor's degree or higher in accounting from an accredited institution is required. CPA credentials preferred.Responsibilities and qualifications of this position include, but are not limited to: - General accounting knowledge and computer experience required along with strong mathematical and grammatical skills.
- Oversees all aspects of the Zoo's financial planning and reporting system; ensuring that they properly reflect the Zoo's operational needs, mission, policies and procedures.
- Provides accurate appraisal, analysis and interpretation of financial performance for presentation to the Board of Trustees. Enlists strategic counsel, support and direction. Ensures accurate and timely financial information and reporting is provided and accessible to the Finance Committee, Endowment committee, advisors, and management.
- Serves as the Staff Liaison and participates in all Finance Committee meetings.
- Serves as Liaison with the Financial Consultant and Fiduciary. Works in concert with the Financial Consultant and Fiduciary to determine best solutions for the organization.
- Serves as the Staff Liaison and participates in all Endowment Committee meetings.
- Attends all Board meetings and provides appropriate financial updates.
- Oversees all aspects of the annual budget process and departmental business plan.
- Reviews concession, catering, and gift shop revenue reports.
- Performs temporarily restricted gift and endowment gift accounting.
- Manages the preparation of the tax return (Form 990) completed by external audit firm.
- Assists with development, implementation, and monitoring of accounting processes and controls.This is a full-time, 40 hours per week, position. Some weekend and evening hours may apply due to events and peak season workloads.To apply:
