Mechanical Project Inspector Job Locations US-MD-Laurel ID 2025-2251 Category Construction Management Type Full-Time Regular Overview EXPERIENCE QUALIFICATION: Demonstrated advanced knowledge and expertise in the planning and inspection of mechanical systems activities for the construction of large, multi-story facilities. Demonstrated inspection and quality management experience in monitoring, tracking and reporting of construction activities to verify conformance to contract plans, specifications, and general permit requirements. Experience with SCIFs and data centers preferred. Responsibilities MAIN DUTIES:Represents client on-site providing quality assurance, documentation, cost control and time management related services. Performs field checks of all "red-line" as-built plans to assure completeness of the plans. Performs on-site compliance inspection, quality assurance, progress monitoring, and payment application review for construction projects for conformance to specifications and codes. Coordinates, monitors and manages inspection activities on project(s). Verifies construction is completed in accordance with contract plans and specifications, approved shop drawings, approved material lists, and permit requirements. Identifies, reports and tracks deficient work until resolved. Communicates effectively with clients, designers, contractors, and MBP personnel. Participated in final inspections, prepares punchlists, and verifies items on the punchlist are completed or corrected by the contractor. May be required to maintains and reviews comprehensive project records including daily reports, documentation of construction workforce, equipment, and materials records, inspection reports, project photos, as-built plans, pay quantity records, progress schedules, work orders and monthly payment estimates. Participates in project meetings such as preconstruction and progress Meetings. Prepares or assist in the preparation of weekly and monthly reports for ongoing project progress. Inspects all phases of work on a project and advises the contractor superintendent or other representatives of necessary action to ensure conformance with plans, specifications, and the contract. Responsible for rejection of non-compliant work as delegated by the Project Owner. May assist in the review of contractor submittals (to include CPM schedules, materials and methods) for conformance, prepares reports and rejects/accepts submittals (within authority limits delegated by the Project Owner). Provides customer services and good etiquette to the public, adjacent property owners, and other project stakeholders.ADDITIONAL DUTIES: May be required to initiate claims avoidance processes and coordinate with client, contractors, other agencies and MBP personnel. May be required to independently adapt and implement changes to standard construction practices and procedures to meet field conditions. May receive intermittent assignments to inspect critical phases of complex projects. Support analytical assignments which may include: constructability review, cost estimating, change order review and schedule review. Obtains advanced training and certifications. Must also maintain certifications required to inspect the work for which the Project Inspector is responsible for monitoring. Actively participates in company activities, including but not limited to branch and company meetings. Qualifications EDUCATION/KNOWLEDGE: High school diploma or General Equivalency Diploma (GED), some technical school. Associates degree or higher strongly preferred. Developed advanced knowledge of engineering technology, project management, or construction materials. Must possess OSHA 30-hour certification or obtain within 3 months of hire. Working knowledge of basic mathematics including computations based on field measurements. Considerable construction related training (i.e., course work in, construction, civil/structural engineering, project management or materials testing/inspection), or a combination of education and experience that demonstrates ability to perform the job. Knowledge of codes, materials, methods, and tools utilized in the type of construction, repair or renovation work. Preferred certifications include CQM (Construction Quality Management), CCM (Certified Construction Manager), CMIT (Construction Manager in Training) Knowledge of a full range of construction inspection tasks ranging from routine to significant complexity. SKILLS AND ABILITIES: Specialized expertise with quality assurance and quality control techniques. Ability to work independently and handle all aspects of a project including client interface, technical issues, documentation and reporting. Exercises tact and diplomacy in dealing with sensitive and complex issues and situations. Ability to identify potential problems and derive recommended solutions from past experiences. Must have computer skills and be proficient in the use of Microsoft Office applications, Email, Internet navigation, web-based tools and other specialized equipment. Ability to read and interpret plans and contract specifications for the type of work that the Project Inspector will be monitoring and inspecting. Skilled at applying mathematical formulas and engineering principles to determine field adjustments. Ability to communicate inspection issues effectively and responsibly (verbally and in writing) with internal and external customers (i.e., contractors, owners, subconsultants, designers, architects and fellow team members). Ability to obtain and maintain required certifications. Ability to stand and sit as needed on project work sites, climb ladders, work at heights, and work outdoors in a wide range of weather conditions. Ability to safely navigate construction work sites with uneven terrain. Ability to maintain valid driver's license with a good driving record. Must be a US CitizenGUIDANCE/RESPONSIBILITY: Receives overall guidance on emphasis and approach from Construction Manager or Project Manager.
