Job Description This role is responsible for performing safety analysis and/or probabilistic risk assessments (PRA) in accordance with the appropriate industry standards and guidance, authoring and reviewing safety analysis/PRA-related documents, and providing results and insights to the design of X-energy technologies. This role will use software to create and maintain models that represent the design of X-energy projects and technologies. They will also produce and review calculation documents that support and control the PRA or safety analysis model files, use models, and apply them to a range of applications to support the design and future operation of X-energy projects and technologies. Job Profile Tasks/Responsibilities - Lead the execution of the core tasks and responsibilities, listed in the Job Profile Task/Responsibilities section of this document, without close supervision and some latitude for independent judgment.
- Provide feedback and guidance to more junior team members with the execution of the core tasks and responsibilities listed in the Job Profile Task/Responsibilities section of this document.
- Shares knowledge related to industry best practices and standards with others across the team.
- Develop screening methods, risk-informed supplemental evaluations, and/or PRA models for different plant operating modes and states, radionuclide sources, various internal and external hazards, and multi-reactor considerations.
- Perform main PRA tasks including event tree and fault tree development, and associated documentation.
- Develop increasing proficiency in using PRA-related software (e.g. EPRI's Phoenix Architect) in accordance with X-energy procedures, ensuring the correct software version is being used in the manner it was verified, be aware of limitations and restrictions of software, and ensure software is referenced in documents that depend on its use.
- Follow the guidance of dozens of PRA-dependent applications (such as NEI 18-04) to acquire risk insights from the PRA to inform the design process and licensing basis of projects.
- Revise and review of PRA documents.
- Follow the guidance of ASME/ANS RA-S-1.4-2021 (or other applicable PRA-related industry standards) in creating and maintaining PRA models and supporting calculation documents.
- Able to show increasing proficiency interpreting, applying, and assessing Standards.
- Collaborate and communicate with key stakeholders in engineering, project leadership, and across the safety analysis team to provide frequent updates on progress of projects, maintain the correct order of priorities and ability to adapt to change, and raise concerns when there are problems with projects and/or timelines.
- Provide engineering/technical expertise and guidance in the identification, analysis, and resolution of problems of increasing scope and complexity.
- Contribute to team decision-making in the accomplishment of business goals and objectives through effective planning, organizing, estimating, scheduling, and monitoring of work activities; deal with changing priorities and differing situations and make decisions that may affect the work of the team.
- Prepare thorough and accurate technical reports, correspondence, documentation, calculations, and sketches related to well-defined problems and analysis of increasing scope and complexity.
- Conduct engineering and related studies; complete routine engineering projects with minimal oversight with increasing ability to independently manage project schedules and interfaces.
- Develop and maintain safety basis documents and safety basis program procedures.
- Identify and describe the interrelationship of safety basis requirements to existing and new designs and operations.
- Develop, maintain, and produce technical documentation to inform system/subsystem requirements and specifications.
- Interface with customers and regulators in nuclear safety reviews and technical working group meetings to comply with requirements and meet project objectives.
- Maintain professional demeanor and behavior at all times in all forms of communication.
- Perform other duties as assigned by manager.
Job Profile Minimum Qualifications - Bachelor's degree in engineering (nuclear, chemical, mechanical, etc.) from an ABET accredited university required.
- Typically, ten years of experience in an engineering role required.
