Chief Operating Officer and Senior Vice PresidentHistoric New England seeks a full-time Chief Operating Officer and Senior Vice President (COO) to lead in advancing and improving the operational systems of the organization, while supporting priority projects and initiatives and delivering budgeted operating results. A collaborative and proactive leader, the COO exemplifies the stature, ability, and proven track record to respond effectively to the opportunities and challenges of the role.Classification: Full-time; Salaried/Exempt; Hybrid-remote

  • Supervises the primary administrative activities of Historic New England, including, but not limited to: General Administration, Finance Operations, Human Resources, Information Technology, Real Estate Management, and Haverhill Real Estate Development Initiatives.
  • In partnership with the Director of Finance, the COO supports three committees of the Board of Trustees: Finance Committee, Audit Committee, and Investment Committee.
  • Partners with the CEO in a range of Ad Hoc or Working Groups initiated at Historic New England, and collaborates with senior colleagues in the work of various committees which include trustee and outside members: Real Estate Development Working Group (lead staff member), Nonprofit Subsidiary Corporation for Haverhill Development (lead staff member), Otis House Project Working Group, and Comprehensive Campaign Working Group.
  • Proactively leads in advancing and improving the operational systems of the organization, and delivering budgeted operating results.
  • Regularly visits Historic New England's sites to learn about operations and to remain current with ongoing work, systems, improvements and changes.
  • Serves as a mentor for colleagues across the organization, to reinforce a positive culture and teamwork, and to help enhance performance and productivity.
  • Champions the organization's strategic plan - The New England Plan - working to achieve organizational goals.
  • Performs other duties and as assigned to support organizational goals and objectives.Qualifications: -
    • Graduate degree in business, finance, public administration, or related field, or equivalent combination of skilled credentials.
    • Minimum 10 years of executive-level experience at a leading non-profit, academic or business organization.
    • Excellent project management skills, supervisory skills, budgeting skills, and communication skills.
    • Demonstrated understanding of complex, multi-constituent institutions.
    • Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously and to set and balance priorities and resource allocation.
    • Fully competent computer skills including advanced use of MS Word and Excel spreadsheet functions, databases, internet research, and e-mail management.
    • Excellent communication skills (writing, speaking, presenting, and listening) with the ability to articulate eloquently Historic New England's mission, aspirations, programs, and pursuit of excellence, which is pervasive throughout the organization.
    • Commitment to the highest standards of professionalism, excellence, and diversity.
    • Valid driver's license and means of transportation.
    • New England residency.
    • Strong belief in, and demonstrated commitment to, Historic New England's mission and values.
    • Knowledge of New England culture and history.
