The position can be from one of our 130+ US offices. It will require periodic travel to client sites.This Engineer will be a trusted member of a nationwide team responsible for supporting our government and commercial sector clients in assessing, recommending, and implementing emergency planning and/or security approaches and solutions. This position will require a well-rounded engineering background that includes emergency management/planning as well as protective engineering to address safety and security risks. The ability to work as part of a coordinated team is critical, as well as being a self-starter. This is a mid- to senior-level position with growth potential.Responsibilities - Be a contributing member of a team to conduct physical security and emergency preparedness assessments and develop security master plans, policies, and procedures in collaboration with other team members and clients.
- Identify and interpret applicable federal, state, and local regulations, as well as industry consensus standards, regarding hazardous substances and chemicals (such as facility spill prevention/facility response plans, risk management plans and emergency response/contingency plans), physical security, emergency planning and related topics.
- Develop protective designs to enhance facility physical security and survivability from extreme events.
- Work with law enforcement agencies (local, county, state, federal) as required.
- Contribute to meetings with clients, regulators, contractors, and other project team members.
- Assess man-made threat and natural hazard data.
- Utilize multiple assessment tools and methodologies to quantify risk.
- Develop, research, and define appropriate emergency management and/or security solutions, processes, and technologies to provide the required level(s) of mitigation.
- Synthesize data from multiple sources and deliver sound recommendations for clients' needs.
- Author reports, technical memos, develop designs, standards, and other deliverables.
- Develop presentations and deliver training content at client locations.
- Interact with a diverse set of clients including government agency personnel, public officials, business, and nonprofit staff.
- Travel throughout the U.S. (travel estimated at 15-20% of the year).Candidate must have excellent verbal and written communication skills. An inquisitive tendency, as well as the interest in protecting people and facilities from harm are also important qualities.Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree, preferably in engineering (civil, mechanical, chemical, etc.), emergency management, international relations, homeland security or similar.
- Five or more years of related experience.
- Self-motivated.
- Excellent technical writing skills.
- Ability to work collaboratively as part of a larger team to support business objectives.
- Work closely with government emergency management, law enforcement and security agencies.
- Ability to travel periodically to meet client and project needs.
- Ability to work in commercial and industrial settings and follow strict safety protocols.
- Fluent written and verbal English communication skills.
- Ability to pass multiple detailed background checks (including criminal history) and drug screening.
- U.S. Citizen, with current driver's license and ability to travel by air, bus, train, etc.
- Proficiency with standard MS Office tools/software, meeting technology, laptop computers, and/or related tools.
- The ability to occasionally walk and/or stand for extended periods of time, often in outdoor environments.
- Basic business acumen and the ability to understand and support client relationships.
- Good professional judgement and strong ethical foundation.Desired Additional Skills:
- Licensure as a Professional Engineer is beneficial.
- Certification as an Emergency Manager such as through IAEM is helpful.
- Be able to assess the stresses and forces from extreme events (blast, wind, ballistics, etc.) to various types of structures and facilities is a plus.
- Certified Protection Professional (CPP) or Physical Security Professional (PSP) via ASIS International, or as a Certified Security Consultant (CSC) via International Association of Professional Security Consultants (IAPSC).
- Bi-or multi-lingual skills are a plus.
- Master's degree is a plus.
