Job Title: Sr. Manager, Systems Engineering-Avionics Aftermarket Engineering Leader Job Code: 18813 Job Location: Phoenix, AZ- Grand Rapids, MI or St. Petersburg, FL Schedule: 9/80 reg with every other Friday off Job Description: L3Harris Commercial Aviation Solutions is seeking an experienced and dynamic leader to head our Aftermarket Engineering organization. The ideal candidate will have a strong engineering background in commercial aviation, with extensive experience in managing FAA certification processes for avionics products. The candidate will lead a diverse engineering organization that manages the FAA certification of avionics products, the installation of avionics equipment on a wide variety of aircraft types, and the ongoing support of the avionics systems as they are used by customers. Coordination with customers and certification authorities (FAA and foreign civil aviation authorities) regarding continued operational performance and safety is a key part of the job. You must have a customer first, move fast, own it, and proactive approach to working with co-workers, management and customers alike. Essential Functions: Lead the engineering team in managing the design, development, manufacture, and repair of avionics products in full compliance with FAA regulations. Manage the ongoing technical support for avionics products, ensuring high levels of customer satisfaction and safety in operations. Oversee the installation of avionics systems on various aircraft types, ensuring adherence to safety standards, customer requirements, and all FAA and foreign equivalent regulations. Develop and maintain relationships with the FAA, regulatory bodies, and industry stakeholders to stay abreast of regulatory changes and advocate for the company's interests. Collaborate with cross-functional teams to align engineering projects with company objectives for successful avionics operation in the field. Drive continuous improvement in engineering processes and methodologies to enhance product quality through customer feedback. Foster a culture of innovation, excellence, and accountability within the engineering organization. Prepare and manage the engineering department's budget, resource planning, and project timelines. Mentor and develop engineering talent, building a robust team capable of meeting current and future technological challenges through a focus on customers, candor, taking ownership, and a bias for fast action. Qualifications: Bachelor's degree in Aerospace Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a related field; Master's degree preferred. Minimum of 12 years of experience in the commercial aviation industry, with a focus on avionics systems. Proven track record in leading engineering teams to achieve defined goals and objectives. Strong understanding of aircraft systems integration and operation on commercial aircraft. An understanding of the regulatory requirements defined in Title 14 of the Code of Federal Regulations for avionics design, production, and repair. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to engage effectively with both technical teams and senior management. Strategic thinker with strong problem-solving abilities and decision-making skills that enhance all areas of the company operations. Commitment to staying current with emerging technologies, industry trends, and the regulatory environment to leverage opportunities for company growth. Experience in Avionics design, Systems level understanding of FAA certification Preferred Additional Skills: Experience in working with the FAA to obtain FAA Supplemental Type Certificates, Technical Standard Order Authorizations, and Parts Manufacturer Approvals. Experience in working directly with airline and aircraft operators to troubleshoot and resolve operational issues with avionics systems. Experience with the operation of FAA Part 145 Repair Stations with a focus on the most cost effective ground test equipment for various types of avionics. Experience with the product development procedures for avionics equipment, including industry standards such as DO-178, DO-254, and DO-160.. Experience with the production environment for avionics equipment and associated quality management standards such as AS9100 and FAA Part 21.
