Job SummaryTo weld and perform layout work required on new and replacement gas facilities, including those designed as transmission lines. To provide coaching and mentoring for all welders as needed. To weld as necessary, install and maintain the distribution system, make welded repairs on vehicles and equipment and to weld specialty items as needed. Provides performance feedback to all Weld Shop personnel. Monitors work to ensure that distribution regulation posts, loops, and meter sets are fabricated to CenterPoint Energy's specifications. Essential Functions - Welds on all gas facilities to include those designated as transmission or distribution, to accomplish the installation and maintain the life of the gas mains and services.
- Assists with managing daily work assignments of all welders to include fabrication requests, monitoring or restocking the weld material inventory levels for the welders.
- Assists with training, coaching and mentoring new welders in proper welding techniques, procedures and proper use of tools.
- Uses flame cutting torches and other approved power tools to cut, bevel and trim as needed to follow proper welding procedures.
- Complete layout work on gas main and service installations, offsets, and relocations.
- Makes welded repairs on vehicles and equipment to extend the working life and/or make changes and modifications.
- Maintains truck and shop welding and fabrication equipment to ensure maximum performance and safe operations. Education DescriptionRequires a high school education or the equivalent knowledge of English, basic mathematics (addition, subtraction, multiplication, division and the calculation of fractions and/or percentages), grammar and punctuation. ExperienceRequires one year (1) welding work experience (wire and stick) on natural gas distribution and/or transmission pipelines. Requires a valid state issued driver's license and able to maintain a good driving record. Physical Requirements
- Able to maneuver up to 100 pounds.
- Abe to walk, bend, climb and lay in awkward positions on a daily basis
