This position will perform skilled technical work in the installation, maintenance, and operation of public safety radio communications systems and applications for 9-1-1, Police, Fire and EMS communications. This position also supports Lake and Carlton Counties through contracts with St. Louis County. Work environment includes office work, working in climate-controlled shop on vehicles including squad cars and public works vehicles, and maintaining equipment located at tower sites throughout St. Louis County. Schedule is Monday - Friday working either four, 10-hour shifts or five, 8 hour shifts dependent upon applicant preference. This position is on-call for one week (Wednesday to Wednesday) out of every 4-week rotation in the evenings. The salary range reflected above is the normal hiring range for 2025. The full salary range, including longevity pay, is $30.01 - $42.53 per hour. This position is part of the represented by Council 5 of AFSCME.An employee in this class is responsible for all phases of work involving communication center electronic systems and equipment. Duties include installing, troubleshooting, and resolving application issues; maintaining radio communication and control equipment, including the digital trunking radio systems, base, mobile and portable radios, communication center consoles and mobile data terminals. The work is performed under the direction of assigned supervisory staff. These work environment factors are general in nature and may vary depending on the specific position being filled. FREQUENT: Lift and carry up to 10 pounds; near, midrange, and color vision; depth perception; and visual accommodation. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS (Pass/Fail): - Graduation from an accredited college with an Associate's degree OR a technical school with a certification in radio communications, computer networking or a closely related field AND two (2) years full-time paid verifiable experience in mobile communications and/or land mobile radio systems maintenance; OR an equivalent combination of education and experience as determined by the Director of Human Resources and Administration.
- Possession of a Federal Communications Commission (FCC) Commercial Radio Operator License within one (1) year of employment. Failure to obtain the license prior to completion of the probationary period will result in termination from the position.
- Possession of a valid driver's license. PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:Possession of a certification from the International Association for Radio, Telecommunications and Electromagnetics (iNARTE), National Association of Business and Educational Radio (NABER), National Institute for Certification in Engineering Technologies (NICET), or Association of Public Safety Communications Officials International (APCO).
