About the Job


The Division of Hematology, Oncology & Transplantation (HOT) is seeking a classical (non-malignant) focused hematologist at the Tenured Professor or Associate Professor level to assume key leadership role within the Division as Section Head of Classical Hematology. The Division is seeking an individual with a strong interest in classical hematology research, mentoring and training who can thrive in the team-based environment of the University of Minnesota Medical School. The ideal candidate will have clinical expertise in classical hematology with experience in basic and/or translational research with an established record of independently obtained research funding.

In the role as Section Head, this individual will assume responsibility for the development, mentorships, and management of the growing Classical Hematology Section comprised of nine early, mid-, and late career M.D and PhD Faculty. This individual will have the opportunity to serve as the Principal Investigator on the Hematology T32 Research Training Program, currently in its 46th year of funding from the National Institutes of Health at the University of Minnesota. In their role, this individual will also participate in the inpatient and outpatient clinical care of classical hematology patients as well as teaching of hematology-oncology fellows, residents, medical students, graduate students, and advanced care providers.


The Classical Hematology Program at University of Minnesota is a major referral center across the states of Minnesota, Wisconsin, Iowa, North and South Dakota with expertise in the care of patients with numerous types of non-malignant hematologic diseases, including hemophilia, bleeding and thrombotic disorders, platelet disorders, anemia, iron disorders, complement disorders (PNH and aHUS), congenital red cell disorders, sickle cell disease, thalassemia and other hemoglobinopathies, porphyria, immunodeficiency, leukocyte disorders, and other rare conditions. Our Classical Hematologists provide care to patients with non-malignant hematological disorders in both the inpatient and outpatient setting. In addition, they participate in teaching, research, and clinical trials. Our facilities include a modern 400-bed teaching hospital, outpatient Clinics and Surgical Center and the Center for Bleeding and Clotting Disorders. Research infrastructure includes extensive basic research facilities and a clinical research office. With a dedicated team for regulatory support and research coordination. Recent investments have been made to continue our robust clinical trial infrastructure including experience in hemophilia and hemoglobinopathy gene therapies. As part of the federally funded Hemophilia Treatment Center nationwide network, we are able to offer comprehensive care that meets each patient's needs.

Significant opportunities exist for development and mentoring of students, residents, fellows and advanced practice providers in research and education. A critical mass of diverse non-malignant hematologists and senior faculty provide clinical trial leadership.
Qualifications


Required Qualifications
* M.D., MD/PhD, D.O. or equivalent whom is Board Eligible or Certified in Hematology
* Demonstrated excellence in patient care
* Demonstrated enthusiasm for medical education, mentoring and strong teaching skills
* Demonstrated excellence in Academic and Clinical Leadership
* Tenure, tenure-equivalent or tenure-eligible per institutional criteria
* Must have or be able to attain a medical license in the state of MN
* Must be able to pass credentialing at all applicable sites
Regional, National or International recognition for research
History of successful national research funding

Pay and Benefits


Pay Range: This role is dually employed by the University of Minnesota and University of Minnesota Physicians. Salary at the University of Minnesota is dependent upon academic effort of the person hired, and begins at $55,000. Clinical salary, aligned with clinical effort, is provided through University of Minnesota Physicians. Total salary is competitive with market and based on AAMC salary benchmarks.
