Job Type Full-time Description Summary Under immediate supervision of the Mobile Services Manager or Designee, this position supports the Mobile Services Team mission, to deliver the Library to patrons in the community and to increase public access to materials and resources by reducing barriers. Cross-training, back-up support, and the ability to perform all of Mobile Services programs is essential. Schedule Tuesday-Thursday: 8 am - 5:30 pm. Friday: 8 am - 5 pm. Saturday: 4.5 hours; variable and dependent on events. *In case of no events, the schedule will flex Monday-Friday. Job Duties (Essential Functions) Maintains effective, courteous working relationships with all library customers and staff by telephone, email, mail, and in-person. Selects and prepares materials for Mobile Services patrons. Serves as an outreach associate and engages underserved populations at events and stops; showcases library resources, promotes library services, seeks feedback. Drives Mobile Services vehicles to community events, stops, and delivery sites. Keeps the Mobile Services vehicles neat, clean, and inviting for the patrons and organizations served. Recruits potential patrons for Mobile Services programs. Assists in planning and implementing community engagement events and programming for all ages in the community. Provides circulation services by creating library cards, assisting with patron accounts, checking out library materials, placing holds for patrons, etc. Provides reader's advisory, viewers and listeners assistance to Library patrons. Refers and connects patrons to appropriate library staff when they have specific needs that Mobile Services is unable to meet. Processes materials and operates the Automated Material Handler (AMH). Discharges and organizes returned materials. Maintains stats and submits monthly report to Mobile Services Manager. Participates in interdepartmental meetings as appropriate. Provides backup support for all Mobile Services programs as needed. Performs other related work and undertakes special projects as assigned. Other duties as assigned. Requirements Demonstrated willingness and ability to provide outstanding service to a wide range of customers by telephone, through written communication, and in person. Ability to work with diverse populations. Ability to learn library operations and procedures, including computer procedures. Demonstrated skill at organizing multiple projects and simultaneous deadlines with minimal, if any, supervision. Demonstrated ability to work productively and cooperatively with Outreach and Library staff. Demonstrated flexibility which includes willingness to readily respond to changing circumstances and expectations. Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively to develop and grow new library services. Communicates effectively orally and in writing. Ability to apply creative problem-solving skills. Ability to work outside for an extended period during outreach events. Must have intermediate computer skills, with experience working with Microsoft Office Suite, databases, email, word processing, and circulation expertise. Obtain a Missouri Class E License or equivalent and ability to obtain a Commercial Driver's License. Acceptable driving record and willingness to drive Library Fleet Vehicles. Must be able to regularly lift up to 35 pounds. Ability to speak and understand English is required. Additional consideration may be given to individuals that are fluent in any non-English languages spoken in the Kansas City area including Somali, Swahili, Spanish, Arabic, French, Dari, Pashto, and Vietnamese.
