Primary Purpose The Carpenter Foreman is responsible for overseeing and leading a team of carpenters and other construction workers in the installation and maintenance of structural woodwork on heavy civil construction projects. This includes bridges, highways, tunnels, dams, and other large-scale infrastructure projects. The foreman ensures that all work is completed safely, on time, within budget, and in compliance with local building codes and safety regulations. Essential Job Functions - Supervise and lead a team of carpenters and laborers, ensuring efficient workflow and quality craftsmanship
- Assign tasks, provide on-the-job training, and monitor employee performance
- Foster a positive, productive, and safe work environment.
- Collaborate with project managers, engineers, and other construction staff to review blueprints, plans, and specifications
- Ensure that carpentry work is completed according to project plans, schedules, and specifications
- Order materials and ensure proper inventory control for all carpentry-related supplies
- Oversee the construction and installation of formwork, framing, wooden structures, and other carpentry elements
- Ensure proper use of power tools, hand tools, and equipment for formwork, scaffolding, and structural woodwork
- Install, repair, and maintain structural elements like beams, columns, and trusses
- Monitor safety equipment usage and ensure that personal protective equipment (PPE) is worn at all times
- Inspect work for accuracy, quality, and conformance to blueprints and engineering specifications.
- Communicate effectively with team members and stakeholders to ensure smooth project execution
- Address and resolve conflicts or issues that arise among workers or with the project itself
- Make decisions in a timely manner to keep the project on schedule
Qualifications - Proven experience in heavy civil construction carpentry, with at least 2-3 years in a leadership or supervisory role
- Extensive knowledge of carpentry techniques, materials, and tools used in heavy civil construction
- Strong understanding of safety regulations and codes relevant to heavy civil projects
- Ability to read and interpret blueprints, technical drawings, and project plans
- Excellent leadership, organizational, and communication skills
