NV Energy Position Title: Principal Engineer - Delivery Job ID: 106663 Location: Las Vegas, NV Facility: Pearson Building Department: Trans/Civil Engineering Full/Part Time: Full-Time Regular/Temporary: Regular Travel Percentage: None Description: Responsibilities Basic PurposeProvides comprehensive civil/structural engineering design services for substation and/or transmission facilities, and to ensure that these facilities are constructed on schedule and within committed resource allocations. Essential Duties and Responsibilities - For substation and transmission projects:
- Provides civil engineering to develop substation/civil plans for sitework including grading, off- site improvements, drainage facilities, fencing and block walls, and landscaping. In addition, completes calculations and prepares designs for substation steel structures, foundations, and control enclosures.
- Provides civil engineering to transmission line engineering analysis, route analysis and selection, calculations for line design (includes structure loading, foundation design and conductor sag), specifies materials and evaluates bid documents and technical submittals, and completes the construction package.
- Acquires all necessary construction approvals and permits from the authority having jurisdiction.
- Develops economical, technically feasible, reliable transmission and substation civil/structural designs with minimal supervision and guidance. Selects and widely applies engineering principles, theories and concepts in the design of transmission, and substation civil projects.
- Provides, mentoring, leadership, training and direction to fellow staff members, and provides technical design and project peer review.
- Independently scopes, routes, and sites substation and transmission line projects and evaluates alternatives in order to find best value.
- Coordinates and interacts professionally with internal and external customers and stakeholders to ensure a successful project.
- Performs studies, prepares and provides written and oral reports to executive management, internal and external customers, provides input as the subject matter expert for the department, and acts as an expert witness in legal proceedings, if required.
- Provides accurate cost estimates and schedule input for use in company budgeting procedures such that cash flow requirements are identified.
- Evaluates, benchmarks, and makes recommendations for the creation and improvements of substation and transmission standards and specifications. Ensures all compliance aspects of position are known and followed; understands and complies with all policies, codes and regulations applicable to position and company. Performs related duties as assigned. Requirements Essential Education, Skills, and EnvironmentEducation and Work ExperienceBachelor's degree in Engineering from accredited school and 15 years industry experience, including experience performing highly technical work of specialized nature. Must be a licensed PE. Specialized Knowledge and Skills Demonstrated knowledge of:--- Utility setting with specific experience in the areas of civil, structural and/or transmission engineering design.
- Working with:
- Civil experience with large 345kV or 500kV substation/switchyard site development or related design.
- Structural experience involving substation steel design or transmission pole design for projects up to 345kV or 500kVkV.
- Transmission line design experience including overhead line design up to 345kV or 500kV and/or underground line design up to 230kV.
- Topics including, but not limited to, 345kV and 500kV extra high voltage design and construction, underground transmission design and construction, 345kV and 500kV substation standard structural shape and tapered tubular design and construction.Skills such as:
- Analytical, interpersonal and communication. Equipment and ApplicationsPCs, word processing, spreadsheet, database, and software for structural steel design, foundation design, transmission line design, hydrology and hydraulics. Work Environment and Physical DemandsGeneral office environment. Travel may be required up to 25% of work hours and may consist of travel to remote parts of Nevada in order to scope substation sites or transmission alignments and support design and construction.
