Summary:The Respiratory Care Unit (5 North) is a 16-bed step-down unit providing care for patients with respiratory and complex medical needs. Nurses on this unit care for a diverse range of patients, including those with COPD, CHF, pneumonia, acute respiratory failure, and others. This fast-paced unit offers a patient-centered approach with a strong emphasis on interprofessional collaboration, involving nursing, respiratory therapy, the pulmonary care team, and hospitalists. Nurses on 5 North have the opportunity for personal and professional growth, with specialized training provided to care for this patient population. Evidence of the ability to perform as a member of a team.ResponsibilitiesBases nursing actions by applying principles of purposeful, organized thinking to make clinical judgment/decisions.Gathers data through history taking and physical assessment and interprets data in order to plan and implement interventions to meet patient care needs.Develops, evaluates and revises patient's plan of care and nursing actions in response to patient's needs.Documents care provided and patient's progress toward attainment of desired outcomes.Directs and supervises others in the performance of delegated nursing activities.Teaches the patient and/or significant other(s) about the plan of care.
