STUDENT EXTERNDemonstrates knowledge and skills necessary to provide services based on the physical, psychosocial, educational, safety, and other related criteria appropriate to the age specific and/or cultural diversity of the population served in his/her assigned area.Maintains required core competencies.Complies with set Policies and Procedures (i.e. name tag, dress code, parking, smoking, etc.)Administers respiratory care and diagnostic procedures and therapies as assigned by the Department Manager, training supervisor or designee to include, but not limited to: Humidity and Aerosol therapy; CPT/Flutter; IPPB; Oxygen therapy; SVNs; USNs; Suctioning; Oximetry; ABGs; MDIs; PEFR; EKGs; Bi-Pap therapy; Calorimetry; Trach Care; Incentive Spirometry.Performs CPR and is currently certified for basic life support by AHA.Understands and practices safe respiratory care techniques.Adheres to all universal precautions.Is able to assess, plan, and provide individualized care for patients in compliance with physician's orders, taking into account the metal status, development, and physical needs of each patient based on age, i.e., neonates, pediatrics, adolescents, adults, geriatrics.Performs specialized skills involved in advanced life support or in intensive care utilizing additional knowledge in bedside monitoring, management and weaning from mechanical ventilation, ABGs, and nutritional assessments.Collects and interprets arterial blood gases and attests to the competency to perform this procedure according to department Policies & Procedures.Performs EKGs according to department Policies & Procedures.Performs Holter and/or Event monitoring according to department Policies & Procedures.Administers drugs in accordance with department Policies & Procedures and attests to the competency to perform those procedures.
