Work Location Type Physical Overview The New York Blood Center provides blood products for New York and surrounding states. The QC/Reference Lab plays an important role at the New York Blood Center and is responsible for testing and monitoring the quality of the blood products to ensure that regulatory requirements are met. The amount and type of testing is diversified from operating the Automated Hematology analyzer to performing manual testing. The QC/Reference Laboratory is also supportive in all validations that require testing for regulatory compliance. Responsibilities This position is responsible for assisting in the supervision of and overseeing the day-to-day shift activities and workflow in the laboratory. - Leads and provides feedback to assigned staff.
- Ensures laboratory SOPs, practices, policies, procedures, guidelines and regulations are followed and where appropriate under cGMP condition.
- Triages and performs patient testing.
- Assures optimal product inventory and is able to place product orders for internal and external requests during shifts.
- Performs platelet antibody screen and crossmatching.
- Performs or delegates quality control on automated hematology analyzer, currently Sysmex XE-2100D.
- Assigns work based on priority and shift conditions and reviews logs and recap reports on a daily basis.
- Ensures smooth transition from shift to shift.
- Makes recommendations to improve business unit operations.
- Works on-call as necessary.
- Works OT to cover shifts and holidays.
- Any related duties as assigned.
Qualifications Education: - Bachelor's or higher degree in clinical laboratory technology, or
- Bachelor's or higher degree from a program with a major in biology, chemistry, or the physical sciences, and an advanced certificate in clinical laboratory technology, or
- Education and training sufficient to qualify for licensure as a Clinical Laboratory Technologist prior to 2009 as specified in NYS-ED Regulation 79-13.4. Experience:
