The Manager of Operations Services at SMO Lexington, NC, oversees internal production support for passenger coach manufacturing. This role includes managing production equipment maintenance (excluding facility upkeep), tool crib and consumable supplies, and the internal transportation of rail vehicles between production areas. Leading a team of 10-15, the Manager ensures that safety, cost, quality, and schedule requirements are met. What your day-to-day will look like: - Responsible for the development of support strategy for manufacturing operations, including budget planning and cost control for Maintenance, internal Transportation movements, and Tool Crib operations.
- Manage the installation, repair and maintenance of production equipment, including planning and execution of preventive and predictive maintenance programs to ensure overall equipment effectiveness (OEE).
- Manage Transportation activities to satisfy production schedule demands of multiple departments and projects. Involves the movement of car shells and assembled rail vehicles between carshell welding, finishing, assembly and test using various custom heavy transport equipment on site. (not over the road).
- Ensure Tool Crib effectively supports provision of tools and consumables to production departments and employees. Evaluate spending and consumption data and develop strategies to optimize cost. Manage integrated MRO supplier.
- Develop, monitor and meet department budgets and business plans.
- Establish, monitor, and adjust manpower and applicable equipment planning to meet production demands.
- Support capital budget planning for required equipment acquisition and upgrades.
To thrive in this role, you have: - Bachelor's degree in a related technical field; Engineering degree preferred. Significant relevant experience may substitute for formal education.
- Management experience in equipment maintenance within a heavy manufacturing environment in the past 5-10 years
- Demonstrated ability to lead and motivate a direct labor workforce effectively.
- Skilled in troubleshooting and resolving complex equipment and process issues.
- Extensive experience managing preventative and predictive maintenance programs for production equipment.
- Proficient in the installation, repair, and maintenance of complex production machinery, including weld machines, robots, CNC mills, PLC-controlled equipment, CMM measurement tools, paint and blast booths, and heavy load transporters.
- Strong problem-solving abilities, with expertise in project management and process improvement initiatives.
- In-depth technical knowledge in electronics, electrical systems, mechanical systems, pneumatics, hydraulics, and control systems/PLCs.
- Experience with CMMS software, preferably mPulse or similar maintenance management systems.
