POSITION: School Nurse (Time Limited/Grant Funded for 2024-2025 Only) LOCATION: Student Services SALARY: Nurse Salary Scale TERM OF EMPLOYMENT: 10 Months QUALIFICATIONS AND ATTRIBUTES: - Registered Nurse with active, non-restricted NC license.
- Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) required.
- National School Nurse Certification or the ability to obtain National School Nurse Certification.
- Experience in child health care.
- Experience in working with children with varied/extensive health care problems.
- Knowledge of North Carolina laws and statutes that affect and impact the student population within the Johnston County Public Schools System.
- Knowledge of professional practice in the delivery of school health services.
- Knowledge of school organization and the community it serves.
- Knowledge to assist school personnel in maintaining infection control standards in schools.
- Ability to determine independently if data collected is normal or abnormal based on findings.
- Ability to implement Board policy on exclusion and readmission of students in connection with infectious and contagious diseases.
- Ability to coordinate district school health programs that address the present and future health needs of children.
- Knowledge of childhood diseases and how these diseases affect the student/school population.
- Must be able to impart this knowledge to students, families, and school personnel in a way that is understandable. DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Collect information about the health and developmental status of a student in a systematic and continuous manner.
- Use data collected about the health and developmental status of a student to determine a nursing diagnosis.
- Develop a nursing care plan with specific goals and interventions delineating school nursing actions unique to students' needs.
- Assist school personnel with interventions as guided by the nursing care plan and to implement nursing actions that promote, maintain, or restore health, prevent illness, and affect rehabilitation.
- Assess student responses to nursing actions in order to revise the data base, nursing diagnosis, and nursing care plan and to determine progress made toward goal achievement.
- Plan and collaborate with other professionals in assuring quality health care to the student population in the district.
- Assist students, families, and school personnel to achieve optimal levels of wellness through health education.
- Assume responsibility for continuing education and professional development and contribute to the professional growth of others.
- Participate with others in assessing, planning, implementing, and evaluating school health and community services that include primary, secondary, and tertiary prevention.
- Attend school administrative staff meetings upon request and present health information/data/updates.
