Position Overview: The Mechanical Engineer designs and configures switchgears and electrical panels for the Traction Power Industry. Responsibilities include developing substation layouts, managing interferences, and creating equipment from initial design to final production. This involves creating assembly drawings, Bills of Materials, Detailed Drawings, and assisting with queries from manufacturers, the shop floor, and field teams. The Mechanical Engineer collaborates with Senior Project Engineers, Technical Managers, and external suppliers to ensure a cohesive engineering solution. Adherence to Siemens Business Management Systems (BMS), safety policies, and standards is mandatory. The role focuses on delivering high-quality customer service while meeting delivery timescales and budgeted costs without compromising quality or safety. What your day-to-day will look like: - Ensure that all project Engineering designs are compliant with all applicable standards including, but not limited to, ANSI / IEEE and NEMA standards
- Assist in the preparation of fully compliant Engineering designs that meet the requirements of the contract
- Assist in the management of any sub-contracted Engineering design work
- Support the preparation of interdisciplinary Engineering designs i.e. TPSS, OCS, Civils, SCADA, Telecoms etc.
- Provide technical support to all Senior Project Engineer(s) and Technical Manager(s) as required
- Maintain effective communications with all project participants to ensure contract delivery on-time and within budget
- Flexible approach to work, and ability to prioritize and manage your time effectively
- Strong attention to detail
- Participate in Factory Acceptance Testing (FAT), Factory Integration Testing (FIT) and Field / Site Acceptance Testing (SAT) as required
- Travel required (approximately 5% of the year)
To thrive in this role, you have: - Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering (B.S.M.E)
- 1-2 years experience as a Mechanical Engineer in similar or relevant field
- 1 year experience with Siemens NX or Solidwork
- Minimum 1 year experience with AutoCAD
- Sheet metal design experience
- Building Structural analysis experience
- Sizing of heating and cooling equipment for electrical enclosures
- Electrical control panel layout and routing experience
- Able to read and understand schematics to determine the most efficient layout
- Good communication and interpersonal skills and be able to effectively communicate and report at all level
- Proficient in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint & Visio)
- Previous work experience with Siemens
