This position will report directly to the Manufacturing Technology Manager at our New Johnsonville, TN location. This Chemist will provide support to manufacturing operations to maintain production performance, this includes leading plant trials for new grade developments or improvements, troubleshooting and determining root cause of quality issues. The Chemist works closely with the technology manager, technology team, operations, and the off-site product development group. The successful candidate must have a high degree of initiative, self- motivation, and flexibility to monitor and move projects forward quickly and safely. The Chemist must be able to quickly develop skills and knowledge in new areas and is comfortable working simultaneously on multiple programs at a time. The responsibilities of the position include, but are not limited to, the following: - Provide technical support to the manufacturing area, including daily process/quality monitoring and interacting with operators and lab technicians.
- Effective troubleshooting, problem solving and root cause identification of potential chemistry related process issues.
- Lead or support plant trials for new product offerings or existing product improvements.
- Provide technology improvements associated with the TiO2 production process.
- Work with site personnel, our global technical service, and R&D organization to develop new technologies and offerings, and to support existing products.
- Serve as product quality guardian for Titanium Technologies product offerings.
- Expert of the process chemistry
- Work on continuous improvement activities to improve area performance.
- Initiate Management of Change (MOC's) to the process to improve quality, and/or cost of the production unit.
The following is required for this role: - Master's or Ph.D. degree in Chemistry or Material Sciences (or related field)
- 3+ years in a laboratory environment in Quality Control or Research and Development
- Strong background in chemistry and characterization techniques associated with metal oxides or other similar advanced materials.
- Demonstrated ability to apply technical knowledge to diagnose, troubleshoot, and solve problems.
- Ability to plan, prioritize and manage multiple, complex, time-sensitive projects.
