JOB SUMMARYThis position involves BOTH welding and fitting metal structures, requiring the ability to read blueprints, fit components to precise measurements, and weld them together to ensure proper alignment and structural integrity. Responsibilities include cutting, fitting, and welding metal parts while maintaining high-quality standards PAY RANGE*Pay is determined by Test Classification Results **HR will contact qualified applicants to schedule on-site weld test. WORK SCHEDULERegular attendance and punctuality are required of all employees. - Career Path Opportunities RESPONSIBILITIESPrimary responsibilities are to perform structural fitting functions with following objectives:
- Perform structural fitter assignments as directed, including laying out, positioning, aligning, and fitting fabricated structural steel plates per customer specifications and Foreman/Supervisor guidance.
- Maintain a safe working environment, attending safety meetings as required, and notify foreman or supervisor of any safety or structural issues.
- Move and align parts manually or with hoists, cranes, jacks, etc.; may need to remove high spots, cut bevels using grinders, hand files, or a cutting torch, and give direction to welders to build up low spots or short pieces.
- Weld and grind barge and boat repair areas, internal compartments, cargo tanks, external surfaces, and specialty components, ensuring proper preparation and full penetration welds.
- Operate welding, grinding, and related equipment and pass a welding test for skill classification.
- Communicate and follow instructions from the Foreman/Supervisor, understanding general policies and procedures outlined in quality and environmental manuals. EXPERIENCE & QUALIFICATIONS
- Must have or be eligible to obtain a TWIC card.
- Minimum one year experience as a combo (shipyard experience preferred, but not required)
- Be able to perform simple paperwork as required for filling out forms and logs.
- Must have good judgment skills and work initiative, taking good directions from Supervisor/Manager.
- Understanding of company Quality, Environmental & Safety manual and procedures described therein.
- High school graduate or equivalent.
- Must have good communication skills and leadership ability, English & Spanish (Bi-lingual required). PHYSICAL / MENTAL REQUIREMENTSThe employee must be able to perform the essential functions of the job with or without reasonable workplace accommodation.
