Job Overview The Nurse RN will function as the health care provider and manager in the school setting. The incumbent will be responsible for maintaining a comprehensive school health program that advocates for the health rights and optimal level of wellness for students and staff. Position Description Essential Duties and Responsibilities Operations - Identify, assess, plan, intervene, and evaluate student and staff health concerns, including physical and mental health needs and injuries using available health data to accommodate needs of students and staff
- Provide health assessments, referrals, follow-up, and reporting for health factors impacting student education including state mandated screenings (i.e. hearing, vision, scoliosis, and acanthosis)
- Maintain accurate and complete student health records including immunizations, medication administration, individual student treatment records and screening results
- Provide First Aid/CPR/AED training for staff according to district policy and the American Red Cross requirements
- Promote and assist in the control of communicable diseases by interpreting and complying with regulations including Texas immunization law, early intervention, surveillance, reporting, and follow-up Communication
- Provide health education, health resources, and curriculum recommendations, including human growth and development, prevention of disease and transmission, tobacco, alcohol, and substance abuse
- Participate as the health specialist on campus teams (i.e. Crisis Team, SEction 504) and recommend provisions for a healthy school environment conducive to learning
- Coordinate and provide leadership and/or support for school/community wellness activities while serving as the health liaison between school, home, community, and health care providers
- Engage in research and evaluation of school health services in order to continuously improve school health programs and school nursing practices
- Provide chronic disease management and training to designated personnel, ensuring competency, including but not limited to medication administration, seizure care, anaphylaxis care, ventilator care, gastrostomy feedings, tracheotomy care, and catheterizations
- Plan and implement individualized healthcare plans and services for children with diabetes and/or health conditions interfering with learning, including medication administration and monitoring Budget
- Manage health services budget including inventory, ordering of clinic supplies and materials
- Maintain clinic equipment including emergency equipment (i.e. AED, emergency bag) Supervisory Responsibilities
- Train assigned staff
- Plan, assign, and direct work for the Health Services program
- Conduct performance appraisal of assigned staff

- Bachelor's degree of Science in Nursing from an accredited professional nursing education program, preferred
- Valid Registered Nurse License from the Texas State Board of Nursing Valid Texas RN license or temporary TX RN license, should obtain permanent license within 90 days. Valid compact license acceptable according to current Board of Nursing requirements.
- Current CPR and AED Certification
- Current First Aid/CPR/AED Instructor Certification preferred but training provided
- Certification in first aid, hearing, vision, scoliosis, acanthosis preferred but training provided
- Minimum of 2 years of nursing experience in community health, school health, or other related fields
- Minimum of 3 years of experience as a registered nurse preferred
- Possess a strong working knowledge of the RN scope of practice as defined by the Texas Board of Nursing
- Ability to demonstrate physical assessment and intervention skills
- Proficient in using equipment and technology for the delivery of healthcare services
- Ability to communicate effectively with students, parents, and staff both verbally and in writing Physical Requirements/Working Conditions
