We want you to succeed and be happy when you come to work at Livingston County.What you will do for us.The successful candidate is a licensed DVM with at least two years of experience as a veterinarian, and the ability to qualify for and obtain a Schedule IV DEA license and Michigan Pharmacy license. The Shelter Vet will oversee and manage all veterinary and medical care related to shelter animals. This includes planning and implementing a comprehensive health care program with environmental sanitation, disease surveillance, physical examinations, vaccinations, parasite control, disease testing and treatment, surgery, nutrition, outbreak response, and environmental enrichment for shelter animals.The Shelter Vet will provide triage and emergency medical care, including being on call as needed. The Vet monitors the health of shelter animals, diagnosing and treating injuries and medical conditions with pain control, supportive and life saving surgeries, and other treatments. Performs high volume spay and neuter surgeries for shelter animals and the public. Advises the Animal Control Director and Officers on abuse, cruelty, and neglect cases.
