General PurposeLead the strategy, design, and delivery of the T&D apprentice and journeymen trade training programs, including oversight of Company apprenticeship program compliance, and delivery of organizational objectives for assigned disciplines. Manage the development and maintenance of a centralized training center. Work across multiple departments in program development and implementation to include long-term planning and budgeting. Conduct training assessments and gap analyses to determine individual training requirements. Manage and allocate financial and employee resources. Implement and support Company programs and policies relevant to the apprentice and journeymen programs of oversight. Responsible for establishment and adherence to department budget. Typically reports to an executive or head of a unit/department.Responsibilities - Plan, develop and coordinate apprentice and trade training programs using a variety of methods including, classroom training, web-based training, demonstrations, on-the-job training, meetings, conferences and workshops.
- Analyze, recommend and/or implement new training programs and improvements to existing procedures for improved business results.
- Coordinate training development with cross department subject matter experts in a way that ensures compliance with regulatory requirements and company policies and practices.
- Oversee the design training manuals, computer-based training, multimedia visual aids and other educational materials specific to the area of oversight.
- Oversee job task documentation, task surveys, training assessments and gap analysis to determine individualized requirements.
- Facilitate team projects, provide guidance and direction to team members, and communicate project objectives, parameters, status, and outcomes.
- Ensure that the T&D Operations organization is compliant with external and internal training requirements by discipline.
- Lead development and implementation of processes and procedures to enhance operational effectiveness.
- Manage complex projects between cross functional areas including represented and non-represented personnel.
- Evaluate policies, procedures and other documentation and ensure training program complies with Company safety procedures and operational requirements.
- Develop and evaluate operational metrics to assess effectiveness of training program; take measures to modify training as needed to address operational gaps or performance needs.
- Lead the functional team; direct day-to-day activities and provide guidance and recommendations.
- Provide input into team employee performance reviews. Flag performance and personnel issues for people manager resolution.Requirements
- Bachelors Degree in, Electrical Engineering, or a related field; or the equivalent combination of education and experience.
- A minimum of ten years experience in training, program or project management in the utility power delivery business.
- Knowledge of established operational practices and procedures for utility transmission and distribution systems with emphasis on dispatching and outage management.
- Communication and interpersonal skills including the ability to consult and resolve internal and external customer issues which maybe critical, sensitive, or urgent in nature.
- Ability to work with all levels of an organization including people with different styles and backgrounds; ability to work as a member of a team.
- Experience in developing a training program for an electric utility operational organization.
- Project management skills including the ability to work as a team member, develop and implement training schedules and timelines, and deliver on commitments.
- Excellent oral and technical written presentation skills required in order to prepare training materials and deliver training sessions.
- Ability to quickly develop subject matter knowledge on a variety of training topics.
- Understanding of applicable Company policies, practices and procedures.
- Understanding of NESC requirements and field work practices
- Leadership and teamwork skills to develop and promote cooperative working relationships within and among departments.
- Travel will be required up to 20% of time.Preferences
