T&D Data Scientist II, Salt Lake City, UT or Portland, OR #112341 Date: Jan 5, 2025 Location: SALT LAKE CITY, UT, US, 84116 Company: PacifiCorp *PacifiCorp is seeking customer-centric candidates to grow and sustain our commitment to a culture of customer service excellence, environmental sustainability and diversity, equity and inclusion.General PurposeProvides technical support on complex and business critical projects related to wildfire mitigation, asset performance, and T&D Operations across six states. Leverages large data sets including weather, environmental, outage, vegetation, and grid attributes to inform long term risk analysis and aid in decision making. Works alongside senior leadership to develop tools and analysis and inform the future of data driven decisions. Develops presentations for senior management and recommends and implements changes to meet company goals. Responsibilities - Conduct research studies and technical analyses in areas of specialized data science to support company objectives including wildfire risk modeling and analysis, electric service reliability analysis, and ad hoc projects in support of electric operations program teams.
- Support data science projects, processes, or systems over the life cycle of the project, including project identification, scope development, implementation, and long-term operations and maintenance.
- Collaborate with engineering, operations, and regulatory teams to analyze complex problems, identify issues, innovate and deliver solutions consistent with schedules established.
- Provide technical expertise across business units to support functions such as wildfire mitigation and reliability within the T&D Operations organization.
- Develop detailed computational analysis, including data science, computer modeling, and scripting and tool development, and integrate methods and products within and across company software products.
- Participate in government, industry, collegiate and other applicable associations or work groups which have the ability to influence or set policy impacting the future of our utility.
- Determine methods and techniques for obtaining results.
- Support data literacy and scripting knowledge development across the team.
- Strong customer service focus.Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in Data Science, Analytics, Statistics, Math, or Engineering from an accredited college/university.
- A minimum of 3 years' experience in a power/utility/energy industry or related professional experience.
- Demonstrated experience in Python (or related language)
- Knowledge of SQL query construction and optimization
- Technical writing skills.
- Ability to communicate complex data in a simple, actionable way through visualizations.
- Ability to review scientific literature and incorporate knowledge into ongoing projects.
- Ability to work cross functionally and support multiple departments.
- Demonstrated project management skills.
- Knowledge of industry best practices for data science and data governance. Preferences
