Job Description Autonomously performs complex diagnostic ultrasound imaging procedures for patients of all ages, under the supervision of qualified physicians for diagnosis, treatment, and prevention of disease. Diagnostic sonographers take the initiative to confirm the imaging orders for completeness and accuracy. Reviews patient history and supporting clinical data for medical necessity. Responsible for contacting the ordering physician if an inadequate reason for test is supplied. Sonographers utilize advanced knowledge to perform diagnostic procedures (inpatient and outpatient settings, including portable and O.R. examinations) by producing, assessing, and evaluating ultrasound images and related data. Sonographers are required to exercise independent judgment in the interpretation and analysis of exams and provide a preliminary diagnosis of the technical findings to the physician. Responsibilities Compiles study data and creates preliminary reports for physicians to assist with interpretation. Acquires quality images in accordance with department protocols Prepares and positions patients for testing, and attaches appropriate equipment for procedures, such as EKG, physiologic arterial, cardiovascular testing, etc., according to established protocol. Participates in Intersocietal Accreditation Commission (IAC), Intersocietal Commission for the Accreditation of Echo Labs (ICAEL), or Intersocietal Commission for the Accreditation of Vascular Laboratories (ICAVL) annual accreditation process. Other duties as assigned, Vascular Sonography. Performs quality exams including carotid artery duplex, upper and lower extremity peripheral venous and arterial duplex exams as well as physiological testing of upper and lower extremities Cardiac-Echo Sonography Performs quality exams including trans-thoracic echo, trans-esophageal echo, stress echo, and structural heart procedures. Use of ultrasound enhancement agents and microbubble contrast imaging. Pediatric Sonography Performs quality exams including congenital heart disease Qualifications Required Education: Associated Degree or completion of a Certification Program in Ultrasonography, Diagnostic Medical Sonography, or Radiology upon hire of an accredited sonography program and/or ARDMS registered (or registry eligible) in the areas of abdomen, obstetrics/gynecology (OB/GYN), vascular technology (RVT) or Cardiac echo (RDCS). Registry eligible candidates must become ARDMS registered in abdomen within 6 months of employment or registered in adult echo or vascular within 1 year of employment. Required Certifications and Licensures: Certified as a Registered Diagnostic Medical Sonographer (RDMS) or RDCS by the American Registry for Diagnostic Medical Sonography (ARDMS), or Registered Vascular Sonographer (RVS) or Registered Cardiac Sonographer (RCS) by Cardiovascular Credentialing International (CCI).
